    Positive Responses

After months of wearing my UK's to work, I finally wore my black and red Menzies kilt to work. Even those who had previously been a little down on the UK loved the look of the tartan. The only drawback is that I neglected flashes this morning, due to the fact that the only pair I have match my green and red hunting tartan. In the future I think taht I'll forget formalities and wear green hose w/ the flashes not matching... Who knows. I'm just glad taht the response from my supervisor was positive, rather than her thinking that I'd finally crossed the line. Good times,

    George

Why wear flashes at all? Yes, they're part of the traditional kilt "uniform" but you could just wear the garter parts without the flashes, and still do just fine.

    George,

Great to hear that. I agree with Andrew, sometimes flashes are not needed. Sometimes people just have to think because you are wearing a tartan, you must wear it tradionally.

That's why I like the rugby socks. No garters needed.

I'll agree with my learned brothers on this, George. Unless you are dressing formally: evening formal or day formal, there is absolutely no need for you to consider the flashes which, like the Sgian Dubh, are just part of The Costume. You'll probably need the garters though, no matter how well the hose fit your legs - especially if you're wearing them all day!

In passing: you mention wearing "green" hose. If I might suggest you keep your eyes open for Oatmeal hose. In my opinion (which you did not ask for!), bottle green hose, with either of your tartans, will be too dark and heavy-looking for normal day wear, and Lovat Green hose would not look right at all. Just my thoughts....... and Oatmeal goes with everything!

    flashes...

While there may not be a "need" per se for flashes for "walking-out" kit, I still prefer to wear my hose, even with casual attire, with the flashes. I think it adds something to an ordinary pair of hose.

Just my opinion, and a different one, for some balance.

    Cheers,

    Todd

Hamish, thanks for the advice on the Oatmeal hose. I will definately look into a pair. The hose I do have (only one pair, as of yet), are a lighter green than either the lovat or bottle greens. I feel like they work fairly well, for now. I haven't been able to find the same green here in the states, I bought them in a close out for a few pounds in Aberfeldy, Perthshire. Thanks for the advice. It is appreciated,

    George

Think you can get Oatmeal kilt hose through USA kilts...

Flashes or no flashes, either way is fine at work unless your office environment requires jackets & ties. But there aren't many places like that around anymore. I do always wear the garters regardless, and I do always wear proper kilt hose at work.

I'm gonna have to get me a pair of decent kilt hose, here shortly. I don't mind the cheapo pair I have, shoved down around my black jungle boots, but honestly the slightly more formal look of hose and shoes is more my style.

Congrats, Geoduck, on the positive response to the tartan kilt.
