Kilt To A Funeral?

It appears that I may have to attend a funeral tomorrow, for the father of a close family friend passed away recently.

I know kilts are commonly seen at weddings, but what about funerals, would that be proper?

I would think so. I wouldn't wear a "Loud MacLeod", but a darker tartan or solid would be called for. Just my thoughts.

my kilt is MacDougall tartan, so that shouldn't be too bad. I've got the hose, sgian dubh, ghillie brouges, all that traditional stuff, so I'm thinking it should be appropriate, unless of course I am told otherwise!

I wore a kilt to my uncles funeral. It was readily accepted with no problem.

as for the tartan, if it is your tartan, go ahead and wear it, regardless of color, if you have no tartan wear a muted medium-dark color

It is part of who you are, just show the respect necessary, and enjoy hearing about the life that was just lived.

You might see if the funeral home has any black mourning armbands -- that is a tradition that isn't as common these days, but very tasteful and respectful. With the traditional "kit", it would look very respectful.

Wore my AmeriKilts forest green kilt to a friend's funeral last November. Not a problem. Was because she liked kilts.

I wore a bright yellow Aloha shirt, much brighter than loud McLeod, to my little brother's funeral...cause he would have wanted that...but he was my brother which gave me some lattitude...might be a bit much for a distant connection.

I was kilted for my grandmother's funeral this past September. Wore my MacKenzie kilt, black hose with matching tartan flashes, black Docs, a black t-shirt and leather jacket. Was perfectly acceptable. About the only bright things on me were my face, my hands, and my knees.

i agree completely with all of u, but i would though ask the family, how they would see it...

funeral is the only place where i ask other poeple.
