If we are still talking of a Dress Jacket (ie: to be worn in lieu of a Prince Charlie), then it would have to be an Argyll or Crail style jacket in black barathea (some other colours, such as bottle green and navy, are available). These jackets come below the waist, but are not as long as suit jackets, blazers or sports jackets - which should never be worn with the kilt, because they impede the swing of the pleats, and look dreadful by throwing out the visual body proportions!
