    Faux Scots?!!!!

In my efforts in spreading the news of National Tartan Day, starting yesterday, I ran into a woman who was thoroughly disgusted by the prospect of people wearing kilts. She said, and I'll quote her, "Oh, no. Does this mean we're going to have to watch hordes of fair-weather faux Scots running about in Black Watch and Stewart? Christ, it'll be worse than St. Patrick's Day!"

What am I to do with people like this? And what, in God's name, is a FAUX Scot?!

I'm sure some of you would have nice snappy comebacks, but I had absolutely nothing at the time.

Faux goodness sakes..... She needs to get that faux foot pole outta her @$$......

I think someone donning the kilt, even in Black Watch or Stewart, in support of Tartan Day, is a wonderful thing.

For those who don't already know, I work for the federal government, and if you aren't familiar with how the govt. operates (what a joke that is - the govt. operating!), practically every "holiday" on the federal calender is celebrated by an "educational" session.... It really is a big deal.

However, there has been no mention of Tartan Day, and there never will be, so, I am all faux any person who want to don the Tartan - how else are we to spread the word of the immense influence the Scots have played on the history of our country, and the world, if we can't celebrate the day designated just for that purpose!!

    Fauxget her......

    LOL! Thanks guys!

Speaking of no coverage of NTD, if NPR doesn't have something on it soon, I feel I'll be forced to write them about it. They seem to cover St. Pattie's day quite well, why not NTD? God knows I give 'em enough support! I would hope they might listen to me.

Don't wait; get NTR onto NPR's production schedule now before it is too late.

maybe she's worried about people jumping on the band waggon and spoilin' things.
lets face it, st patrics day is a joke for the most part, green beer? *** is that all about?
people ask me why I dont wear green on st patrics day,"I'm not Irish" is my reply. or "I don't wear red on st georges day"
ask yourself this question, who is the patron saint of canada? or who is the patron saint os america?
sad thing is, a lot of people don't know.

It's just this kind of idiocy and small-mindedness that makes those of us whose Scots connections are a little less obvious worry about donning the kilt.

    patron saint...

ask yourself this question, who is the patron saint of canada? or who is the patron saint of america?
    Take your pick on Canada:

    Saint Jean de Brébeuf
    St. Anne
Our Lady of the Assumption (Acadians)
    St. George

    USA:

    Our Lady of the Assumption

And this is by no means a comprehensive list!

Phil is quite right; In Ireland, St. Patrick's Day traditionally has been more of a somber, religious holiday (the pubs were closed!), although there has been an attempt to bring an American-style festival & parade to Dublin in recent years. For Irish-Americans, St. Patrick's Day is more of a celebration for the contributions and accomplishments that Irish-Americans have made to the USA. In Springfield, where I live, there is very little in our St. Patrick's Day parade that can be considered "Irish", although our Irish Society (with the help of the Scots, btw) is trying to educate folks about the history & customs of the holiday.

"Weekend Wallace"...I like that one!

    Cheers,

    Todd

ALL men should be able to don the kilt.

Let me let you folks not in the know in on a secret... The kilt is Dumbo's feather. Live as a free man all the time, not just on the weekends. Free yer balls, free yer mind, and free yer self from society. Seperate and stand out. And to Hell with what others think and say.

You shouldn't just have a taste of this freedom on the weekend. Or one day a week. Screw that.

    Live free or don't bother.

    Live large, and in charge.
