    Tartan Day in UK?

I'm really confused now I was checking out all the preparations for Tartan Day - or week, when I noticed that in Arbroath, they are having Tartan Week in April too. Elsewhere it stated that Tartan Day for everyone else was July 1st. Apart from the logical 'do both to cover all eventualities', which is it here in the UK? Does anyone know?
    Thanks.
    Phil

    Tartan Day...

I believe the 1 July date is for Australia & New Zealand; in the US & Canada, it is most certainly April 6th.

    Cheers,

    Todd

That's right, July 1 DownUnder, altho I think it should be April 6 which was the date of the signing of the Declaration.

I don't know why there are two dates.

Graham Here's the story on 1 July.
The significance of the 1st July is the fact that on the 1st July 1782 an Act was passed called the Repeal Proclamation. This Act repealed the Act of Proscription 1747 which made it an offence to wear tartan amongst other things.

I have NEVER heard that Tartan Day is celebrated here in the UK, sadly. Not that it makes a lot of difference to me as virtually every day is Tartan Day as far as I am concerned

Thanks Bubba, that clears it up.
Hamish, I'm the same, every day for tartan, but it is a great excuse to promote and celebrate the kilt.

Sadly, I shall be travelling on July 1st so I'll have to find someone else to organise the celebrations this year.
