I think I am going to move to The Colonies - we, back home, just do NOT have any events like those that the rest of you have. In fact, we don't have any events (of a Celtic nature) at all. I'm deprived! (Yes, that IS spelled with an "i"!!! )
That surprises me Hamish, my impression was that celtic events were plentiful, at least in summer, in England.

Maybe it's true what is said: 'the English and more English in other countries' (or the Scots/IrishWelsh etc).

I do try to follow the movements of my favourite celtic bands, and they seem to perform much more in the UK than over here. In fact, when we come over I hope to attend as many concerts, ceilidhs, highland Games and celtic events that I can find.

One we do plan is a celtic festival on Lewis in July.

Anyway, the big London event will be good - Kilts on Kew, all are welcome! How does Sunday July 31st sound?
Ah, I think you are confusing England with Scotland, Graham. Yes, in July and August, and even September, there are Highland Gatherings and The Games taking place in Scotland, but not down here in England - at least, not in the South that I've heard of. In all honesty, I cannot even think of a pipe band in England, though they might exist, secreted in dark corners of Manchester and Birmingham. The only occasion when I can be certain to hear the pipes is in the telecast of the Remembrance Day service from The Cenotaph in London!

Mybe I do not look in the right places, but only once have I seen a Celtic band's performance advertised in this part of the country. That was when the Tannahill Weavers played a gig last year in the theatre of a small town about twenty-five miles from here. I'd never heard of them, but sent off for tickets and took a friend. The band was good (although their music was not to the taste of my lady companion!) but we were absolutely deafened by the over amplification of the band and both left with throbbing heads. I've not heard anything of the band since then, nor seen any others being promoted. I take most of the local and regional newspapers, but have never seen anything Celtic advertised, or reported upon, in them.

Oh no! I have The Kew Gardens Gathering pencilled in my diary for 12th or 13th July I'm booked to fly to Vancouver on 31st July!!!
