    Dear Abby on kilts

    Here's today's Dear Abby:

DEAR ABBY: What do you think of men in kilts? I want to buy and try one. My wife is undecided, but trusts your judgment. Your thoughts, please? -- GRANDSON OF SCOTLAND
DEAR GRANDSON: As a person of proud Scottish descent, you are entitled to wear a kilt if you wish, but please refrain from doing high kicks on the dance floor.

DEAR ABBY: I am a kilt-wearer that loves the tradition, follows the heritage, and respects the customs. I would like to know what you think of people who mock the garment or take jabs at the stereotypes. Would it not be more proper for a man to wear a kilt then... say... and old wrinkled BAT to make idiotic comments on a traditional garment? Signed, Off-Kilter.

DEAR OFF-KILTER: As far as I'm concerned, you and your kilted brethren can come down to my hyperbollic chamber and kiss my 200-year-old, wrinkled backside. I remember when kilts were worn properly by the Celts. Hell... I WAS THERE. My advise to you is this: Take your high-and-mighty kilt-wearing attitude and shove it up your pleats.

    Now THAT would be news!!!

Hmmmm, does the high kick comment mean that Abby knows what we wear under our kilts?

    Jimmy! I'm cracking up!

My dad called me today to ask what I thought of the Dear Abby column. I'm going to forward him your comments. Brilliant!

    Ham,

Abby is or should I say was (since her passing someone else her daughter I believe) is an advice columnist in many newspapaers here in the states and probably elsewhere. Most of the advice she gives is pretty much common sense.

They even wrote a song about her sometime back, but not sure how it goes.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for that, Glen. No, I've not heard of her but that's not to say that she is/was not published here in the United Kingdom. Most tabloid newspapers here have their own 'Agony Aunts' who repond publicly to readers' enquiries, but as I do not read newspapers, on principle, I cannot really comment on the nature of their antics.

    Glenn,

I'm pretty sure that I saw a photo of a guy who was hired to take the Dear Abby job when Abigail Van Buren retired.

    Hamish,

Abigail Van Buren, and her sister Effie, who wrote as Ann Landers, were in the "advise to the lovelorn" business for about 50 years before they both retired. They were twins, but due to their competitive feelings about their columns, they had a running feud for years.

    Glenn,
On second thought, it might have been Ann Landers who was replaced by a guy. I can't keep either of those old dolls straight.
