    Maarketing Ideas for Kilts

I may be missing it, but there doesn't seem to be much advertising in media done by kiltmakers yet.

I'm sure there are many trades that would benefit from kilts on the job and small advertisements in those trade magazines should generate sales.

Judges come to mind. There are far more judges than anyone realizes (used to sell judicial robes) its a large market and they are well paid. Judges sit for a living and must stay focused. But they do it in pants under their robes. A judge would be much more comfortable with a kilt under their robes. With the robe covering even squished pleats wouldn't matter.

Massage therapists would be a natural (was one for 12 years). Look at any massage magazine or supply catalog and you'll see ads for loose fitting pants. Massage therapists need freedom to position their body for best effect on the client and most self-protection of their own body. Even those loose fitting pants can bind. Kiltmakers with those outside pockets would have an advantage since massage therapists need somewhere to carry the oil or lotion that they use.

Its been mentioned many times what a natural contemporary kilts would be for long haul truckers...dare a kiltmaker risk a booth at a trucking show?

How about those poor security guards who's job it is to sit and stare at a bank of closed circuit tv monitors in a casino or a department store. Or, air traffic controllers...has a plane ever crashed because a controller was distracted to rearrange the boys?

Point is, its pretty easy to review the vast workplace, identify occupations that would benefit from wearing a kilt, then market to that occupation in their trade magazine or at their trade shows.

Kilts won't go mainstream by waiting to be discovered.

I don't want kilts to go mainstream.

I fell into that trap for a short while after "discovering" them for myself but honestly I like that they are different from what the homogenized masses wear on a daily basis. There is room for more kilt wearers but in no way would I prefer to have them become a common garment.

That said, if any kilt makers want some cheap but effective marketing, put me in a kilt and one of your company tee shirts, give me a sporran full of business cards and about $100-$150 for my bar tab. I'll generate more hits to your web site in one weekend than an ad in a magazine. And I'll have a great time doing it.
