I can't speak for European practices, but here in the states, mark-up on clothing is generally 300-600%.
When I worked for a big clothing retailer years ago, they were buying GASS jeans for $8.00 and retailing them for $48.00.
Seems to me that kiltmakers are really not marking up that much, in comparison to the rest of the clothing industry.

The markeup on clothing varies, but it's huge no matter what you buy.The more popular the item the higher the markup. I've seen T-shirts that the stor paid $3 for going for as much as $30 or more. A friend of mine works at a clothing store and one line of neckties the carry they pay $1.30 each and the marked price is $65.

Except Levi's they have a mark-up of about $.50 a pair. they just a MOUNTAIN of them.
