It's nerve racking the first time you go out in public kilted. I went out for the first time in my kilt last weekend for breakfast, and walked all around the little town I was in. I expected the worst but nothing happened. It felt great not having to defened myself. Walking around kilted in public just keeps getting easier after the first time you venture out. Keep it up.
