Kilts ONE, shorts ZERO
I've just returned from a long weekend south to visit my son and to attend a Sean Keane concert (another topic).
One night we were all in the city and fancied a pint at an Irish Pub, my son, wearing shorts was barred because of the dress code. I followed and said 'well what about a kilt??" The bouncer said "you can come in, but no sgian dubh's"
I think the guy was proud of himself for knowing what a sgian dubh was, we had a laugh and i went in to bring the pints outside to those poor souls unkilted!
Just a couple of days away and there is so much reading to catch up on here!

That is incredible! Funny, now that I think about it, Ive always thought of kilts as being comparible to pants for level of dressed up rather than shorts. I've never considered the fact that my knees were showing makes it more like shorts than pants.

yes, I thought it was worth telling the story.
Once inside the pub I got a few smiles and one guy greeted me with such enthusiasm, you'd think he was a long-lost mate!
My son said he wished he's worn his kilt.

Here in the US, I have wondered if I would not be let into a place because I was wearing a kilt.
As mentioned in another thread, I attended a fund raiser recently. It was held in a VFW hall. Not one issue about the kilt. Guess I was worried about nothing.
But, I really would like to be in the situation where kilts are welcome, but not shorts!
