New! My GT Doublet..........
Having recently hijacked another thread (for which I apologise) by mentioning my new acquisition, I thought it was now high time that I produced photographic evidence.
The GT Doublet is a contemporary 'take' on the traditional Montrose Doublet - one of the Highland Evening Dress jackets not so frequently seen these days....... the ubiquitous Prince Charlie, which is smart, has almost become a uniform. That is fine if you want to look like everyone else at a 'black-tie' function, but some of us want to be a little more individualistic - and the Doublet fits that bill!
Geoffrey (Tailor) in Edinburgh designed this modern version - hence the prefix "GT" - which is basically a single-breasted interpretation of the double-breasted Montrose Doublet. I wore the latter for many years when giving Highland Dance and Scottish Country Dance displays and exhibitions in the 1960s and '70s, but I can no longer get into it!! The lace jabot and cuffs from those days work just as well with the GT, however.
I have put photos of it in my personal Gallery here, showing the new Doublet teamed with my oldest 8yd kilt (Gunn in ancient colours, 1973), my 8yd Maple Leaf kilt (2003) and, for an additional contemporary twist, with my 8yd plain black Geoffrey (Tailor) kilt (2004) in the identical fabric as the Doublet - Barathea.
Again, I am unable to reproduce the photos here but, as I say, they are in my "X Marks the Scot" Gallery.
[Can anyone throw light on my problem of suddenly not being able to bring photos into the text of my posts, when they sit happily in my Gallery?]

When I was at Kinlock Anderson in July, they had jackets like that except they had the flaps below the belt. They called them Kenmore Doublets. I asked if they would make me one without the flaps, since I liked it more than the Montrose. They said they couldn't, so I ended up with the Montrose. I would have preferred what you've got, Ham.
Methinks I'll have to find my way to Edinburgh again sometime...

A fantastic looking jacket! Love the maple leaf kilt too. I don't think personally I could pull off the lace jabot look... but it certainly looks great on you. What fun!

Yup, Ive noticed that too... it's like the code has been disabled or something.

As I said on a different forum. WOW!!! (No I'm not shocked, but at the same time, it works well to show eye-popping in progress)
(edit: had to turn on smilies)

Fantastic Hamish!! I really like it! I hope you have a suitable event on the horizon to which to wear it.
As for your question about posting photographs, if you are linking to the photo in your xmarks gallery, there seems to be some kind of block on doing so. If you link the to picture from another location, it should work ok.
This picture is linked to my webspace on blueyonder.

Many thanks for the compliments. I have a Prince Charlie but I really like the more 'romantic' look (and feel) of the doublet.
Actually, I don't have an event lined up, Martin - but you never know what is round the next corner!
Thanks too for the responses to my 'Gallery-to-post' query. This blocking must be a fairly recently introduced step since I was experiencing no such problems only a short while ago. Yes, I am aware that I can bring images in from other sources, but the only 'outside' one I have is my photo album at IMFF and I don't like to keep putting images there for the sole purpose of exhibiting them here! People keep telling me I need my own website, which would be fantastic, but I know such a thing would be way beyond my technical abilities. In this connection I bought s software programme: "Web Page Maker" by 'Serif' but, as I don't understand a word of the instructions, it would be pointless for me to attempt using it!
