Barb's Posse
Well boys I finished my kilt today! I does not look to awfully bad for a first try.
It turned out be be a bit larger than I wanted, but with some alterations I will be able to get it to fit better.
My wife was impressed with it, so I will be able to tackle that wool tartan that I have. But I will take my time with it and get everything right.

Hi guys!
I've been up to my eyeballs in work and have missed this thread entirely until today. Sounds like some of you are really smoking along!
If you have specific questions, you can always pm me, although it's great to see the questions and answers here on the forum.
If anyone else wants to get in on the fun, the deal is a free book in exchange for suggestions for revisions for the 2nd edition.
Did everyone get their questions answered above? It seemed to me that the answers took care of the problems, but, if they didn't just holler!
This is really exciting! Can't wait to see the pictures!
Cheers,
Barb

That was FAST! I'm impressed. What did you do, give up sleeping? Now the real fun begins. Take it for a spin!
Cheers

Barb, there's really only one real suggestion I can make for the next edition. A separate glossery of terms. It might be a real help to the beginner. It can be fairly easy for someone not familiar with specialized terms to get a bit confused.

Hi Bubba
That's a good idea. I didn't include basic sewing stuff in the glossary, because it just never occurred to me.

I know and it only occurred to me when a few of the guys here decided to get the book and take a shot at making kilts. Those of us that sew know this stuff and tend to forget beginners don't. For me it's been no problem understanding the steps. Your book has been a great help in understanding the complexity of the kilt. Now I just need to make time to get back to it. My jacket project awaits and another kilt after that.

Perhaps, but I know it will make publishing more difficult, some photographs of those stitching techniques??

Line illustrations are much more clear. It's difficult to show details of stitching in a photo.

Actually, b&w photos are much _easier_ to put into a manuscript than taking the time to draw, scan, and label a line drawing. Particularly if you start with a digital photo. And the publishing isn't any different because it's all done digitally. But Bubba is right, a line drawing is easier to work from than a photo (if the drawing is good, that is!). Too much extraneous detail in a photo - the reader doesn't really know what to look at and focus on.
