I'm not sure what you mean. Tartan is by nature a completely different artform than heraldry. To use colours from armourial bearings in designing a tartan is no infringement on the rights of the armiger. Besides, when I use heraldic tinctures and metals as colour inspiration, it's at the behest of the armiger. But even were that not so, the way colours are represented in a tartan can't bear much resemblance to the way they are used in an heraldic device or coat of arms. So far as I know, no armiger holds arms that include a field of 'plaid'!

i think he was referring to "my" suggestion of a Clan X crest. maybe. and i'm sorry for jumping like that! i didnt think about different shades of those colors. i was thinking that there would be a tartan with the exact hues of the olympic colors...so i didnt mean to offend anyone! done right, it could definitely be nice, now that i think about it more.

but man, matt, i really think that's a gorgeous tartan. you get my vote for sure. another vote for matt's Clan X tartan!

You didn't offend me, if that's what you mean. I had never thought about our Traill tartan having the Olympic colours til you spelt them out!

I agree that Matt's design is excellent and I think we should use it!

Matt wrote, ".....but more of a "club" then you guys can design and use whatever kind of crest or logo you wanted to".

I was referring to using a crest. I was simply pointing out that using items from a heraldic design might cause problems. I hope I did not cause any antagonism.

OK, I wasn't sure what you meant. Of course no antagonism! I love all the discussion on this forum and I'm not the type to take offence, anyway. I just wanted to know what you meant so I was talking through the tartan-designing side of it for the sake of clarity.

I think Matt's tartan is fantastic!

I love the colors and the symbolism of each color.

    Let's make it happen!

I like the blue and white because they echo the Scottish flag, the Saltire, too.

Is that your new avatar from now on, Dana?

As long as no one opposes.
It is rather sharp looking isn't it?

I hereby cast my vote for Matt's tartan also. Since I don't have a blue tartan kilt in my 'Kollection', this would fill a gaping hole, as 'twere.

A nice 8 yarder in a 16oz weight cloth would fit the bill perfectly!

    Congratulations, Matt.
