I hope this doesn't sound "hokey".....

Since posting my previous remaks, I've been thinking about the colors in Matt's design and what they mean. For some reason, it made me think of this image...

    http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/a...hp?pic_id=1848

The only colors missing from the current design is a bit of green and brown. The blue, white, green, and brown together as an "earth" tartan could represent the the collective spirit and heritage of everyone. A tartan of "global" proportions.

(OK, I'll crawl back under my rock now.)

    Both! (Just kidding!)

I really, truly like that tartan. It just seems 'right' to me. I like the symbolism and the aesthetic qualities of the design. I think it's understated without being boring, which is ideal for a tartan one will want to wear a lot.

My personal opinion is that it's a great tartan and as long as everyone likes it, why not go with it?

Anyway, I may let someone else handle that aspect of things. But if it's wool you want (either for a kilt, or just the cloth) let me know.
I hate to be too predictable and repetitive, but GET THE WOOL!

Sorry I havent posted on this thread yet but I have been crazy busy. I think Matt's tartan is the epitome of what I think represents this group. Consider that my vote.

Now on to the real challenge. You guys are going to have to get enough fabric made to make my kilt free!

(it was worth a shot anyway!!!! ) :P

'allo...I leave for a couple of days and looks what happens! Matt, I think your tartan is fantastic, and I like it a lot.

I heard from Molly Manaugh and she would be interested in hand weaving some material for hats, etc. She told me she doesn't make ties, but that she's thinking about it since she's had a number of requests lately. My impression is that Molly isn't terribly interested in turning out masses of stuff. The idea of recurring orders seemed to generate no interest in her at all. I think she weaves because she just loves to weave. So a yard of fabric and a dozen ties with third of a yard left over for a photograph might be right up her alley.

I'm thinking that the first thing to do after we decide on a tartan is to get a small amount of actual cloth woven. That can be turned into ties or other small items. We can also get a nice photograph of the actual cloth and put that up on the web for everyone to see. If that goes over big, then on to making kilt-weight cloth.

This is a kilt-wearer's group. Don't you want to display your 'group tartan' in a KILT, rather than a hat or a tie???

No offense, but there are several other tartans ahead on the kilt list. A tie should be affordable though.

My only down side is now I'm adding to my list of things I NEED to save up for; another contemporary kilt in a different color for casual wear, family tartan because I WANTS it, a US Navy (Edzel) tartan for my Navy days, Bear's clan MacBitseach because of the attitude, a freelander sporran (or 2), and now Matt's design because of the group, the new motto and, dang, that would be an impressive looking kilt to add. I'd better get some more military shadowboxes sold since that's where my play money comes from!
