Hamish,
Personally, I believe that Charles and Diana should never have married. She was too naive and he had no intention of giving up Camilla.
Charles should have had the courage of his great-uncle, whom I consider rather contemptuous for various reasons, and stepped out of the line of succession rather than turn away from Camilla and take advantage of a naive young woman.
I agree that for the sake of the Monarchy, Charles should give up his Rights to the Throne. I am afraid that the Monarchy will fall if, or before Charles III ascends the throne.
Like Graham said, not much disagreement here.

On this occasion I have to disagree, regardless of Charles conduct in his private life he is still the future king, by lineage, if we start chopping and choosing monarchs then there is no point haveing one , the royal family is there so we dont have prisident Blair, whist Charles private life is "chequared" I look at is this way- if you were haveing a major operation would you want the very best surgeon available, or the one who was faithful to his wife. The church of England was created so the Monarch could chop and change wives.
Charles will be King and he already speaks out against some crazy government and european policys and political correctness, this is exacly the kind of King we need. I also belive he will be King Henry not king charles.

well said daz, I like the bit about the surgeon.if the monarchy poked it's nose in our personal business like this we would be up in arms about it.as long as he does a good job, it's none of our business what he does in his personal life.kings and presidents have been "at it" for 100's of years.

thank you- and he treats all his future subjects with respect English, Welsh and of course the Scots Charles is a friend of Scotland-and hes also our no1 kilt wearing Royal !!
also his comments about the press "I hate these bloody people!!!" are 100% correct the press in Britain is a disgrace. It promotes clowns like Beckham and Rooney as role models and snipes at HRH because hes commited adultery despite him a admitting it and gone before god to ask for forgiveness, none of us are saints, and to have a monarch who is "human" and has feelings can only be a good thing. The only other alternative to Charles is the Princess Royal who is a credit to the Royal family and isnt afraid to tell the press to "Naff off" as well as being an olympian shes the only member of the Royal family with a criminal record- we need real people like this -not perfect cardboards cut-outs who turn out to be a waste of space.

I have not walked a mile in his kilt. Ergo I am not fit to pass judgement, that is reserved for someone better than I. It would be petty for me to pass judgemnent on the appearance of anyone else.
And you may ask yourself, Well how did I get here?

Good to see the Prince in a kilt, helps us all.
I'm just surprised the security folks let him wear that knify thingy in his sock...could hurt himself...

Only the Queen is above the law, however hes not breaking the law as hes in Scotland and Scottish law allows the carrying of the sgian dubh when worn as part of Scotlands national dress, he would however be breaking the law in england and wales and could be prosecuted, at present only the Princess Royal has a criminal record, for letting her dog bite a member of the public.

Personally I agree with Ham. I believe that the monarchy should stand for honesty and integrity, things that I feel are soley lacking in this day and age. Not being British I do not feel qualified to comment on Charles' fitness to ascend to the throne. However, as king hew would also lead the Church of England and I do not think that is right.
My British relatives on the other hand apsolutely adore Charles. They see him as being a point of stability in this turbulent world. They are all of the generation that fought in WWII (my wife's grandfather was in the Blackwatch Regiment) and that might explain their outlook. Charles' views on many subjects do harken back to a simpler time. I believe that this is part of his appeal.
I think there is no way the two sides of this discussion will come together. But I think that we can agree on the fact that he wears the kilt well.

He will become the head of the church of England which was of course created so that the Monarch (henry viii) could divorce, so Charles is a "perfect" head of the CoE.
He isnt a saint , hes human and has faults, but as a king who knows, lets give him a chance
