Hey Mike, My brother-in-law spent some time with that unit around desert storm time, but was reassinged to scouts. Bact then, he was a Capt; Chuck Johnston. Ever run across him?

The name doesn't ring a bell Verlyn but that doesn't mean if I saw him I wouldn't know him. I actually was ships company on the NO boat (U.S.S. New Orleans) and wasn't supposed to hit the ground. Heh heh, we all know how that goes at times. Pass on a salute to him for me, it's a great unit.

I'll do that. He's still in the reserves and a LCol now. If you had met him, you'd remember him. I was on the Mighty Mo (USS Missouri) during Desert Storm. There was a shortage of gunnery officers for the firing missions, so the XO asked ( that was surreal) if I (Assistant Suppo) minded qualifying and standing watch. I actually took a fire mission from my brother-in-law during one late watch. I am the only 16" gun qualified supply officer in the Navy.

I thought I'd better pipe in on this thread too.

Born at Pendelton in '51. Grew up at every Marine base in the world and a few Navy ones too.

After a couple of yeqars at college joined just in time to close out Viet-Nam. Crewed CH-53's outta Kaneohe with HMH-463. Ended up flying the things and was the 3rd of the last bird out in '75 after 25 mo. in country.

Later, finished my MSc and flew for the Army as an Apache Test Pilot and the last thing I did was fire the third shot of the Iraq War ver. 1.0

If you look at the Camo fabrics I offer, they are the ones I have worn and fought in.

Sempre Fi all. (my Leatherneck tank is almost done thanks to Barb's Possee,)

    Semper fi, amigos.

A pleasure to be in your company, and remember to feel free to slap me down if I start getting too silly.

Hmm, Kilted Bishop----don't be too surprised if you get a phone call in the near future, I may have to add to my "man-skirt, non-traditional, detartanified" collection!

Squid here did about nine and a half years some in Pearl Harbour,HI
Then in Yokosuka Japan. I saw about half of the world! Been to Hong Kong,Phillippines, Korea,Austrailia, Singapore,And floated off the coast of Oman for 111 days, during the Iranian Hostage crisis.

    Saw a lot, did a lot ,
all thanks to my Uncle Sam and the good folks of America that I proudly served. I just wished they thanked me for what I did , like the men and women who are serving now. As the jarheads that I searved with say

I was just going through the threads and noticed this one. I was in the Army for three years active duty and two reserve. Fortunately, I was never in any action (I was a REMF, for those in the know.) I still work for the Army as a civilian in Medical Research and Acquisition, supporting all those who are still in the line of fire, from all the services.

    Ladies and Gentlemen:

While I never served(health) I have the utmost respect for each man and woman that donned the uniform of our coutry. My family has seen service in the Spanish American War, WWII, and "Nam. I have two uncles who served in the Pacific during WWII one in the Army and the other in the Navy. My older Brother was with the Army Engineers Corps as a demolition expert and tunnel rat in Vietnam.

I am proud to say that I now have two nephews in the service one is a Marine sniper serving in Iraq and the other is in the Air Force and now stateside.

I wish I could individually shake your hand and say this in person but this will have to do for now
--Thank-you! Stand proud and be pround youv'e earned it.

    Bill
May all your blessings be the ones you want and your friends many and true.
