I found it hard to believe that Principal had never seen a kilt before!!! I am shocked!! Are people really that ignorant about cultures outside of their own little town? Hopefully his students are going to get out more often and explore the world and culture.

Next stop, my e-mail interface to let the officials at this high school know that this is patently ridiculous.

    http://www.osakis.k12.mn.us/

I notice that htere are no e-mail links on this page. I wonder if there were, say, three days ago, eh?

You can call the high school if you want, though.

    shocked

I am shocked. I am simply shocked by this story. I agree with what many here have been saying; that is, I doubt anyone else was dressed as well... or as appropriate. I must admit that I don't understand how the kilt could fit into any kind of "shorts" category!

Actually Gallant, I believe that the ACLU would be completely behind teh student in this situation. Not to go off topic, but I would actually say that they would be invaluable help in any case of discrimination.
    I must agree.

My only complaint with the ACLU is that they don't defend the whole Constitution, they pick and choose what they defend.

I think ACLU would be on the right side in this case. Maybe we ought to encourage ACLU to get involved.

    hmmmmm....opining again....

i spent the weekend up in Detroit, a most diverse cross-section of America if ever there was. this morning whilst negotiating entrance on to I-275 from Eight Mile homeward bound, and believe me that is not an easy task, i caught a blurb on the news regarding a young man who wore a tee shirt to school with apparently the illustration of the President of The United States with a caption below the image "American Terrorist". if i understood correctly the student was reprimanded by the school in some fashion and the ACLU has now stepped in. A "Freedom of Speech" thing i would imagine.

<personal opine> i believe the first flexible willow branch available should be brought to bear against the rump side of this student. not for the students apparent dislike of the current Presidential policies, but for the students total lack of appreciation for the office itself. a tee shirt of this caliber is nothing less than an attempt at "SEE ME! I THINK I HAVE SHOCK VALUE", and shows absolutely no political savvy what so ever.</personal opine>

in some cases, i have to admit, i feel the ACLU seems to grasp at straws and for what ever reason, grasps the right one. i don't agree with the ACLU in every instance and they certainly stretch the bounds, but dammit, sometimes they are just plain right.

in the meantime i wonder. would the ACLU have the gumption to stand up for a young man admiring and displaying his Celtic Heritage as our Minnesota Champion has done? i doubt the young man wishes to be thrust into the limelight in this fashion. on the other hand, a spokesman may have just been born.

    Jewddha,

I am sure others on board can explain better than I.

ACLU - American Civil Liberties Union. a non-government owned watch dog group that attempts to uphold the Constitution Of The United States.

If you are not American, you must understand that there are "double standards" in play in America. In other words, what is good for one group should in fact be good for another. However in America that is not always the case. As well, the ACLU steps in not as advisary but as protectorate of those that may be discriminated against by government or non-government entities.

In my opinion the ACLU is a litigious entity.

Again, I am by no means an expert on the ACLU and others can explain much better than I.

But that is the short and sweet of it in my book.
