My used UK Workman's vs my Survival...

I got a used chocolate Workman's off the scratch and dent list. It is worn a bit but not worn out. There are some curls to the forward pleats and the apron that resisted my iron. Not to big a deal as it will be my beat around the house kilt I think.

One thing....I am spoiled by my Survival UK. The snaps along the waist line really help when putting on the kilt. The Workman's lacks snaps on the belt line and getting the belt loop on the right side of the apron to aproximate the belt loop on the kilt itself is tough. They tend to separate and wonder a bit. I may have to get some velcro or a snap set.

I think the Survival's design is vastly superior. Plus the leather straps and snaps on the inside of the Workman's rub a bit if I am not wearing a shirt (tucked in) or some under garment. There is similar rough spots (but less) inside my Survival too. Maybe I am a bit sensitive! But a chamois liner would be real nice.

I like the Workman's but I'd go for another Survival Kilt in the future. I wish they made it in the Carmel color. Oh well...

I have a snap set, and I was contemplating adding snaps to the rest of my kilts like my survival has.

On the one hand, it would let me wear them without belts.
On the other hand, it also means the floating waistband goes away and the kilt is much less adjustable. As I tend to gain/lose about 15 lbs over the course of the year (I get winter fat - must need the insulation) the floating waistband helps.

I wear belts all the time anyway so its more or less moot for me, but its something to consider if you fluctuate in weight like I do.

I have the same dilema as both you guys.

Love my two workmans, just wish they had the waist snaps...except when I'm putting on the weight...

Have gotten used to adjusting the apron on the workmans...just another step.

I like the workman's for the "look." When it comes to hiking I'm a sucker for the survival.

Just found that the survival pockets can hold a 1.5 liter canteen I found at a surplus store...not sure I wanna hike with that kind of weight there, and lose the space for other things, but nice that its an option.

When I won the free kilt how could I not choose a survival though...won out hands down, and not just because it was the most expensive...because its what I wanted another of most.

Well Ron, now that you'll have two survivals you can take the pockets off the one you leave at home and wear them on the belt of the one you hike in with the canteen.

Actually at a recent event I tested out the survivals "brew capacity" feature in the cargo pockets. Worked great for carrying around a few extra beverages until I wanted to sit down. Well, fortunately they snap off, so off them came and set it on the ground next to me.

I know you wont Ron, but for any others who may try make sure you dont drink so much you leave your pocket behind. (though it must have happened, as UK now sells individual and paired survival pockets)

I added snaps to my workmans and got my original with them after I got my survival. Of course I have a "puffy" hip on my left side (residual from a car rolling accident) so my waist is smaller then my hips. so to get the UK over my hip it's loose around the waist anyway. personally I think it is easier to put the damn thing on. you can snap the waistband snaps then do the apron.

They let you chose a survival kilt now for your free one????? I thought that one and the leather were out! If that is the case I really want to win now! =D

Thanks for that simple idea (that evaded me) Yaish. Will see where the pockets on the belt ride in relation to my backpack waist belt...

And yes, the winning announcement included survival as an option...I was surprised to and called Otto and yes...it was an option. That's what I wanted next anyway so was a very cool deal.

    Go for it Bishop!

Was a hard choice between black and basil for my second survival (got tan for the first one).

I love my black workman's...thought a black survival would be along that line...but then that would be two black kilts...and the basil is the same color as the sand sage that abounds here in the canyonlands...so figured I'd have two "solid color camo" kilts.

The caramel/Carhardtt workman's is the same color as the redrocks here abouts. The basil the same color as the sage.

Now...if I could get a camo pattern made in a combination of the Carhardtt/caramel and basil with maybe a little tan and black thrown in I'd have the perfect camo kilt for this area.

Strangely, of all my camo kilts I think the patterned camo that blends in the best is the one I least expected - my Freedom Kilt CADPAT...its all green, but the greens blend into the sage and wild rhubarb, and brittlebush as well as they must blend into the Canadian forests.

Hey Ron, actually the new Survivals are now in a green called 'sage' instead of basil, so it might match even closer. Basically the same color, just a hint more grey to it.

I like the black myself, and not having a black one that is on my list. I just hope I get it, I got a good feeling about it, plus they said they haven't gotten a lot of submissions for may. =) Who knows...two UKer's of the month on X marks? =D we could start a club!

I love the red rock country. I used to live in San Diego and we travelled to Sedona some summers. amazing so close to Hell (Phoenix) there is so much beauty. 8)
