Sitting in a car, and pleat gathering...
There's a simple solution to maintaining your pleats while getting into a car. Simply keep a large towel in the car to use for this purpose.
Before you slide in, wrap the towel around your kilt... making sure that the pleats are hanging straight first. Center your "backside" in the towel, then pull the sides to the front. By wrapping it tightly as you get in, the pleats maintain their form and you don't MANGLE them while driving. When you sit down, just release the sides of the towel and sit on it while you drive. No need to pull it out and take the chance of messing-up what you've just tried to prevent!
This is the ONLY solution that I've had for my thinner material kilts. The thicker, wool ones can benefit from the treatment too.

For my UK's I just use a shoelace. I keep it about an inch or two above the bottom of the kilt and in I go into my SUV. In cars it is easier I think. and leather seats are super easy! just sit and spin! LOL

Leather seats are the ticket. No fus no muss. Swipe sit and spinbest option I ever got!!! The leather is easy to clean as well.

Dang, this kilt thing is getting expensive! Now I need to upgrade my van and my pick-up to leather seats!
A leather kilt on leather seats will always make for some interesting noises on those bumpy roads too!
Pass the broccoli and chili, please.

Yes it does!
Also keep in mind on hot summer days with leather seats be VERY sure you have your pleats under you before you sit.

Can't say I have experienced that problem with leather on leather but hey the radio is always blaring with some tune or another.
Now you think the summer is bad with leather seats too hot....just think of the cold white north and no seat heaters and you don't get the pleats under you just right!!! Which reminds me I have to build me a set of seat warmers for those leather seats!

I think Hamish has the swivel seat. Because of what he has said I have thought about getting me one, that way I can be a real swinger or in this case a real swiveler Besides that it is cheaper than buying a vehicle with leather seats, that way I can get MORE KILTS!

Glen, as long as you don't mind sitting about an inch higher, then go for it. For me, I will stick with my 1982 Volvo 242's heated (yes, Robert) leather seats... ;-)
