    Kilted at Hershey

I went to Hershey Park with some friends yesterday and decided to wear a kilt (Black Stewart from Stillwater Kilts). For the most part the people I went with were very accepting. One of the ladies in the group kept commenting on gusts of wind, so I told her that I knew she just wanted a peek. That shut her up quick.

In the park I noticed a lot of people looking, but only received a few comments. One worker there asked if I was Scottish. One lady asked if I wasn't cold, and I had to admit it was a little breezy. Finally, one of the security people asked me what tartan it was and I told him - he was a member of a pipers band. My friend told me that he saw some of the girls joking with their friends about lifting up the pleats for a peek.

I didn't see any other kilts there, so I was probably the only one. I really think most guys who are hesitant to where a kilt at any thing but special occasions (myself included) are worried too much about what other people might think. For the most part, although you will get some curious glances, people don't really care what you are wearing.

Sorry, but no pictures. I took the camera, but didn't check the batteries beforehand.

Yeah, it was the first time out someplace that wasn't a normal kilted event.

Well, of course there are several Scottish or Celtic events coming up in the next few months and I'm going to try to make some of them. There's also some beer and wine festivals that I plan to attend. I'll probably wear a kilt for Armed Forces day - I don't have an Army tartan kilt yet, so I'll have to don the Black Watch.

Coming in a little late on this Dave, but congratulations on your first venture out as a fine kilted gentlemen that you are. It really does become easier and more enjoyable as you go on kilted in your daily walk.

    Again Congratulations!

I just recently did a similar thing my self. I wore mine to a sake tasteing at a local store. I got a few glances and some comments, but over all people would look and then not really think twice. One of the comments I got was from a guy that afterwards ran into the automatic doors. I tried not to laugh, I really did.

But congrats dave, and happy kilting.

    Hey Dave, ain't it fun?!

The Black Stewart is a fine looking kilt.

One would think though, that the UK Chocolate Brown Workman's would be the kilt of choice for a visit to Hershey Park....

    "Chocolate Brown!!!"

Of course that would have been appropriate. Unfortunately, one must go with what one has. I may someday have a wide selection of kilts, but for now I have to choose from the few I have.
