No, it dosen't make the kilt special if it has box pleats, it's a matter of preferance. However, box pleated kilts are not what's considered "the norm" (but then again, in our culture, what is? ) Knife pleats ususally go, if you are looking at a kilt lying on the ground, pleat side towards you with the belt loops on top, they go >>>> and not <<<< The apron on a men's kilt opens on the right. IE, looking at it laying on the ground, apron side up, belt loops atop, the apron would be over here <<<<.
