    MiLadyCeilidh...

First of all, I'm glad that you've decided to wander over to this site. It's really a good bunch.

As for the kilt issue on women. I personally LOVE the look. Kilts open on the right side... period. It doesn't matter whether it's being worn by a man, woman, alien, tree, or whatever. A kilt is a kilt. If it opens on the left... it's a womens pleated skirt. There are numerous kilt sites and books that will state the reason for the distinction. It's like a cowboy wearing a baseball cap. Just because he's wearing it, it doesn't become a cowboy hat.

As for darts on the front apron... it can happen. It's not normally designed into the average kilt, but quite often a woman or "differently shaped" man may require them for a proper fit. Darts are not a kilt sin... just not an everyday occurrance.

I have seen female kilts and skirts that Kelly Stweart has made at USAKilts, and they are quality stuff. The look, hang and appearance are quite nice. BearKilts are designed and constructed in such a way that they look GREAT on ladies. My wife loves to wear mine, and it looks MUCH better on her.

Whatever you decide to purchase (and I hope that you do), just be sure NOT to get something off-the-rack. Since the majority of kilts are made for the men's dimensions, you may have problems getting the proper drape.

Here, us guys are all having headaches just trying to come-up with a good tartan to have our kilts made in! No more complaining here!!!

If anyone knows the link could you please post it. Thanks

Welcome to the forum Milady. I understand you are from the USA, however, one of the finest Scottish kiltmakers, Geoffrey (tailor) makes kilts and kilted skirts for women, and I'm sure they would ship to the U.S. I have their catalogue as I purchased one of my kilts from them. It appears ladies kilts are made in 4,5,and 6 yard lengths and kilted skirts in 3,4, and 5 yard.
The kilts are made with the cloth of your choice, you can even have the 16oz used for men's kilts. And for your further information, their ladies kilts fasten to the right.

Their website doesn't give as many details as the catalogue.

However, if you wish, I can scan the page and email it to you.

In any case, I hope you enjoy the forum!

I don't have a lot to say about the kilt for women that's not been said here already so I'll just say that I really like your handle!

    welcome!
