    Talking New to x marks

Hi to all kilted warriors out there far and wide.
I'm not new to wearing of the kilt but would be seen now as a closet wearer.
I've been in a Pipe Band called the Brockley Thistle here in London, which has been disbanded for some years now and but I use to play pipes.
I own seven kilts four of which I've made, three of which have been inspired by Matt Newsome and his four yard box pleated kilts, it is my belief that the four yard is a authentic design and I for one will be carrying on with it.

Ranald, welcome to the forum. I hope the "used to play the pipes" part of your post means that you used to play the pipes professionaly, and still do for your own entertainment.

Welcome Ranald, nice to see another London lad here. I guess you wouldn't see too many kilts in Croydon, right?

I shall be in London in July, in the city at least, it will be interesting to see the reaction to being kilted.

I hope you settle in and enjoy the forum.

I would think it much more comfortable to wear a kilt than to wear a closet! ;)
Welcome to the group! I hope you have fun here, and like JerMac I hope you haven't quit playing pipes altogether. As one who would like to be able to play the pipes I would hate to think that some one who can isn't doing it. I was also interested to see your reference to Matt Newsome's box kilts since I'm going to have him make me one. How do you think they differ from the knife pleat kilt in terms of function?

Many thanks for the warm welcome, I've been reading the various threads for about a week and thought it was about time I contributed something.
I haven't played the bagpipes for some considerable years but do plan to take it back up when I move to Scotland in the next couple of months, I do however have a very supportive and understanding wife who allows my eccentricities.
Kilts in Croydon......never seen one yet, maybe I'll be the first!
Graham you sure get around a bit don't you ?London is O.K. I suppose, but like anywhere does have it's share of rednecks too, but due to it being a rather multi cultural society most people wouldn't pay you much attention.
Jamie, box pleated kilts are authentic , they are in my opinion more wearable and usable due to the decrease in weight, and simple more beautiful, if Matt Newsome was nearer to me I would jump at the chance to have him make me one (over the pond and all that).
    cheers all Richard Duncan Reynolds.
