finally wore my kilt to school
I got my kilt (a black original UK) for Christmas, but last friday and then this past monday i pluck up the courage and wore it to school.
It went pretty well. I got called up to the office on friday thought because one of my teachers emailed one of the assistant princibles asking if it was ok to wear to school. There is nothing in the schools dress code concerning kilts, but skirts are addressed and that part only says that they must cover the knees, i was aware of this when i orded my kilt so I made sure I ordered it alittle long so it was ok. I decided to wear boxers because I wasn't sure how some kids would react because some aren't too mature.
Then on monday, when I wore my kilt again my second period teacher said that all the teacher were talkiing about it in the office. Later, at lunch, a couple black kids came up to me asking if I was wearing anything under it (I was going regimental because friday went ok) and before I could answer one of them tried to look, he didn't get to see anything and he was not dismayed he tried to look later during lunch while I was eating, I don't think ill be going regimental anymore.
I planned to get another kilt this summer if I can get some money, probably a tartan kilt, but I'm still looking for a non-clan-related tartan because I'm not scotish and I don't want to offend anyone.

Way to go! I sure wish I'd had the courage to do something like wearing a kilt when I was in school. You younger guys are real ground-breakers!

Nevermore! It feels damn good, doesn't it? What grade level are you at? I'm in grade 11, and have taken my FK to school a few times, and it feels like I'm on top of the world. I definitely know what you mean as per undergarments, that is one place I don't care to risk anything happening... From a fellow kilted student, rock rock on!

Yet another kilt wearing experience! Just love to read these type of things, just goes to show you that our fear of others reaction is somewhat unfounded.
Nevermore, you are a true inspiration!

Very cool, and glad you had a positive experience so far. I've noticed that despite expectations, younger kids 'get it'. Just today I had a car stop as I was walking along and a H.S. aged kid jumped out and asked if he could take his picture with me.
Of course I said yes so his girlfriend took a picture of him standing next to me in my chocolate workmans.

Hey Nevermore...Great you plucked up the courage to wear your kilt to school. It'll be easier as time goes by.
As regards the Tartan kilt Most Scots wouldn't be offended if you choose their Tartan as look as you wear it with respect and pride.I have a MacLean Hunting just because I like the Tartan...So go on There are plenty to choose from....
Good Luck mate

I'll echo that. Just make sure you know your tartan, it's origins, and some of the history that goes with it just in case folk ask questions, and they will.
Takes a lot of balls to go against the flow and be different. Stand tall. And if somebody tries to lift your kilt again haul their sorry **** out into the street and teach them some manners.
It's humiliating to have your butt kicked by a man in a skirt

Agreed, just know the tartan, and you should be fine. And to echo everyone else, good on ya! Nice to see people with the courage to be different

Kilt Wilter - probably not the best idea in a high school ;) My high school got VERY serious about fights in the last year or two I was there. If they happened, it wasn't a surprise to see the kids out of school for the rest of the year.
But either way, do make sure that they know not to try it again

WAY TO GO! I wish I had been into kilts in high school. The ability to be your own self in a place that encourages herd behavious as much as the average high school speaks volumes about you. Though I agree boxers are in order. After all don't want a breeze to blow up your kilt and make all the other guys cry with serious bouts of inferiority complexes do you? And for God's sake son you might cause a riot with the girls!!! Be responsible.
seriously pick a tartan you like and wear it with pride. If anyone gives you grief they aren't worth the breath to aruge with them.
Just tell them your name is a recent addition the sept of families linked to clan. Which is true wearing the tartan in essense shows respect for them and makes you linked to them...sort of. Loop hole!
