    Dancing men

Has anyone noticed or is it just me, why do more women or girls take up step dancing (Irish of Scottish) than do men or boys?

I was at a street fair today and noticed that at the Irish Step Dancing school that was performing had only two males dancing and about 35 female dancers.

Because all of the men are off dancing "The French Mistake."

    Meh, nobody will get this.

    Throw out your hands
    Stick out your tush
    Hands on your hips
    Give 'em a push
    You'll be surprised
    You're doing the French Mistake!
    Voila!

Highland Dancing used to be a mostly male activity. I'm not sure when women came to dominate the feild, but I dare say it has been in recent history.

Most of the dancing, if you look at the stories behind them, are obciously meant to be danced by men.

I still remember one time a young male dancer telling me about his experiences growning up the only boy in his dancing class. He told me that his parents had him enrolled from an early age and he hated it. He begged them to let him quit, but they refused. He was the only little boy in a class full of little girls, and he was all the time going on overnight weekend bus trips to festivals and competitions. Just him and a bus full of girls...

..."Then," he said, "I turned 13. And I realized -- I'm the only boy on a bus full of girls! And I said thank you, mom and dad!"

LOL. Do you think Mom and Dad had that in mind?

It does remind me of a skit by comedian Greg Proops. It was another 'white people have no rhythm' jokes, and he went on to compare dances invented by different races such as salsa and lambada compared to what "white people, kept in isolation for 1000 years came up with, Riverdance!"

"I cant move my arms or my upper body, but my feet, they are a-moving!"

Matt, I'm the only lad in a room full of lassies at Scottish Country Dancing, and I love it too.
They all really like my new solid wool kilt because it apparently lifts higher when I spin around.:-P

I do wish we had more men, I dont know why we fail to attract more of them, but it is a fact of life.

I have all the rythm of Fibber McGees closet being opened and a hippo doing ballet is more graceful than I am. Dance? More like atrocity when I try it.

Wish I danced as good as you do.

I could be used as a perfect example of "white men have no rhythm."
