A "Bookish" experience
Last Friday I was dressed in a Kinloch-Anderson Breacan kilt whilst shopping at the local big box book store. The architecture section where this 40 year old kilted poster was browsing was flanked by two twenty something guys to my right and three twenty something ladies to my left. All of the ladies were in skirts. Need I say that all of the guys where in jeans. One of the ladies then approached me and said: "Excuse me sir, but I am dying to take your picture, or at least a picture of the bottom half." I agreed to a full photo. Then the other two ladies came up and said how great the kilt was. Finally one gave me a huge hug. When this was all over, I noted that the two guys to my right had fled. One can only wonder if they got the picture.

Oh yes Rick, the seductive powers of the kilt can turn many a guy to running away with their tail between their legs. Well done.

Yes - if you have a choice between a kilt guyor one in jeans the kilted one wins hand over fist.

I'm guessing you're an Irish fan (location)... Does ND have its own tartan?

I went to graduate school at the University of Notre Dame. The "Irish Guard" wear kilts in Notre Dame Plaid, which is supposed to be registered. It is blue, gold, and green. I have not been able to find a good illustration of it, however.

I'm going into our local independent bookstore tomorrow. It'll be the first time, kilted.
HA! We shall just SEE.

Bookstores are knowledge warehouses. In my experience, most obnoxious meatheads tend not to frequent them typically. I've worn my kilt to many bookstores in the past and the only negative reaction I ever got was from a generally cranky woman who insisted that only men born in Scotland were entitled to wear a kilt. I quite pittied the man she was with.
I Gotta say, being asked for a photo was pretty cool. Other than a pub-crawl, I've never had that happen. I'll be wearing my kilt to the local Home Depot this moring... After reading your post, I'm tempted to make a stop at the bookstore as well - just for the fun of it.

Kilts are certainly the way to attract the opposite sex, as even I found out today. While visiting a friend in hospital a nurse screamed out quite loudly when she saw me "a man in a skirt, I LOVE to see a man in a skirt", this in the hearing of the nurses station and half the ward. Of course, I corrected her on the proper name of the garment and thanked her. She said that this is not often seen in our city (well. that's true).
