Highlander, King David I moved quite a few of his English friends into Scotland several hundred years ago, and some of them became as Celtic as Celtic can be; e.g., Clan Comyn. My point is only that it wouldn't be the first time men from England moved into Scotland; however, I don't think those of whom you're speaking of are marrying into Celtic dynastic families.

Under the Barnett formula Scotland does well in terms of spending from the Government, I think so long as whoever owns the land looks after it properly I dont see a problem , Id hate to see land grabs like mugabe is doing !!

Wow! You are right. Whomever takes over land, the important thing is that it is loved and cared for.

That was my point. Even in the Middle Ages, some of those who moved in from England (Comyns), loved the land and people, and were loved back by the people and became just as Scottish and anyone else. I suppose that happens today. The Scots can do damage to their own land, as that article points out. Thanks for the link.

"scottish heritage" is a "quango" (quasi autonomous non governmentle organisation) we have a lot of these they are non-elected non accountable organisations appointed to "run" various things- the best they can come up with is to pump raw sewage into Loch Ness then I wish Nessie would bite them on their backsides!!

I noted with some interest that the Isle of Bute where the "Stuart" Clan hails from is spelled Stewart. But I'm also aware that it is the same family and Stuart is a spelling variation made by Mary Queen of Scots ( if memory serves).

I'll bet I explain spelling differences at least a dozen times at each of the games I attend. People today can't quite get past the fact that "Fraser" and "Frazier" are one and the same. Or, this typical question: "Well....isn't 'Mc' Irish and 'Mac' Scottish?" But, the important thing is that they're interested and they're searching. What needs to be taken with a grain of salt are the "sept lists."
