I read about this awhile back. They're even proposing banning large kitchen knives that have a point saying that large pointed knives aren't needed for kitchen work. Just shows the US Govt doesn't have a monopoly on stupidity.

This is total madness, how do people like this get elected?

The article mentions sport, one sport I love is scubadiving. To scubadive without a decent knife is madness, as any diver that's been caught up in a fishing net or line will tell you.

It has always been my habit to wear a swiss army knife, it's a useful tool, not a weapon.

Australia will soon go the same way.

I've never understood democracy. We the people elect individuals to represent the majority view. They in turn make laws that the people don't want, that in fact inconvenience or even persecute the people.

    Great system!!

Any object can be a weapon in the hands of a motivated individual. There is nothing special about a knife. Laws like that are telling us we cannot be trusted unless we first rendered helpless.

    Sikhs...

I'd like to see what the Sikh community in Scotland has to say about this, since some Sikhs carry a small dagger (a kirpan) on their person for religious reasons, to remind them of their commitment to fight for social justice & freedom.

    Cheers,

    Todd

very true!! it happened in Australia, not that I am an advocate of hand guns, but the ban on guns of certain types here has done nothing to reduce gun-related violence.

As I recall the Sikhs will be exempted for religious and cultural reasons. Hmmm. Lets start a new religion, The First Church of the Sword and make wearing a sword mandatory for the Faith.

Graham, such bans never work. To make it effective you'd have to completely stop worldwide prroduction of weapons and parts. Fat chance of THAT happening.

I remember Jack the lad promising the Skien dubh would be exempted from legislation. Unfortunatly scotland does have a knife crime problem , but thats because all the police are in the station filling in forms or attending Diversity courses.
