... and flame shirts, Hawaiian shirts, and black t-shirts, oilskins...same outcome.

It was gradual with me as well Derek. First a "Weekend Wallace" type of thing, then came the expansion to more frequency to all the time. Besides after all my old clothes started getting worn out, it was either the kilt or nothing at all.

Mine was quite by accident. I was talking to a fellow hiker at work and he mentioned seeing a hiker in a kilt over the weekend. Said he talked to him a bit about it and relayed his comments. I thought it was interesting, but didn't give it much thought. I did want a kilt for Celtic festivals and such, but all I knew were the expensive tanks and knew that wouldn't happen for a while. Then, at a Celtic festival, my wife and I saw the Amerikilts and he talked about hiking in them. We got to talking about it and, since they were reasonably low priced, I got one. Wore it the rest of the day and the next at the festival and discovered how comfortable it was. My son wanted one the next day. Then, he and I wore them on a backpacking trip with the scouts and were sold; I won't wear anything else hiking now. I think she got my second one for me (USAKilts) so that I would leave her alone about is the wash done so I could get the kilt on. Now, she's going to try her hand at making me one over the winter. Never was any resistance; of course my sister's husband has had a kilt as long as I've know him (a VERY long time), so it was nothing new in the family. My daughter's fiance got one and wears his a lot too. The short version is it just happened and no one really expressed one way or the other unless it was males wanting their own kilts. When my other sister's brother-in-law saw the kilts of 4th of July (my future son-in-law and I wore them for the day), his only comment was that maybe he should get one. Looked real comfortable.
