No Clue, but being another old bird like you I remember when it was almost as daring for a lady to wear pants to work as it is for us to wear kilts to work now...and when companies prohibited women from wearing pants to work...
Fortunately, their right to wear pants pretty much gives us the right to work kilted (OSHA etc. excepted).
So, God love the ladies.

Gentlemen, in light of the other semantical gymnastics going on around here I will remind you that "pants" is the original term used for the female garment. Males that don't wear kilts wear trousers.

Oops-pants is a shortened form of 'pantaloons' a male garment.

Here in the UK, when women began wearing 'pants' or 'trousers' regularly (I am thinking of my mother here), they were called "slacks".
As I understand things: British men wore trousers, American men wore pants and women wore slacks.

Whatever name they go by they are uncomfortable unless they are as baggy as the ones MC Hammer wore.  Man am I the youngest one here?
