    First Kilt, First Outing

So I got me first kilt yesterday and promptly tried it on with the belt, sporran, and L&M sporran strap I got from Stillwater Kilts. Matched it with a black polo shirt and pined on the basket hilt sword styled Kilt pin I had gotten from the Kiltstore. I thought it looked pretty sharp and the wife seemed pleased as well ;-) . A short time later we were expected at her Gransmother's place for dinner. Wife's parents were in town and wanted to visit us. Wife asks me if I'm going to wear my kilt. I hadn't planed to but from the tone of her voice I could tell she was just asking a question rather than trying to make a sly remark. So I decided I would test the "Kilted waters" out on some in-laws for a first outing.

To my surprise I got very little reaction from anyone there. Wife's grandmother said it looked nice, wife's mother said it looked cute, and wife's step-father said he thought it looked warm. Wife's sister and cousin made no comment for good or ill. Really seemed a non-issue.

On a side note I made the observation that air conditioning floor vents are your friend when kilted and there's a heat index of 111 degrees F outside. 8) Never again will doubt the value of floor vents.

So far so good, I'll test how the public at large responds soon. That should prove more interesting.

Congrats on your first outing! The first time is always both thrilling and slightly scary! Glad it went well!

    See how easy.

Just don't confuse the comfort of floor vents in a home with those big updraft grates you find on the sidewalks in a big city...its real hard to see where you're going when your kilt is up in your face and the folks around you will be too busy laughing to give your directions...

Oh yes the joys of the first outing in a kilt. Wonderful experience!

I find retail malls are a fun place. It's a hoot watching the double takes and backwards glances.
