Just for fun and a little input
Well guys, I've been kilted now for almost half a year - it feels like so much longer. I own one UK Survival (my first), a wonderful heavyweight trad. in the Fraser of Lovat tartan, and recently a UK Neo-Original in Camo (taken from my brother who wasn't making use of it). I own two belts, both brown, one of which I bought with my UK, a pair of dark blue hose, a pair of red flashes, but as of yet I do not own a sporran (when wearing my trad I use my detachable pocket from my UK Survival, and wear it on the belt on my hip).
Well, since my birthday just came and went I decided it was time to get myself a sporran. I'm going with a Freelander, Mk3 in the black and green. Of course, Freelander isn't aware of that yet - he's on vacation, but he has a nice PM waiting for him to get back!
So here I am, jonesing on my sporran, and I was thinking, you know, now might be a nice time to get myself another pair of hose, a new, black belt, and a nice buckle to go with it. I might go with some more flashes, but I tihnk that would be pushing it.
Here are some options:
Hide Embossed Belts
Waist Plates
Buckles
I'm liking the round Buckle.
Also, I'm wondering about a pin for my trad.
I've posted it before, but I'm thinking: Rohan
either that, or I know a silversmith, and perhaps he can create something unique for me.
Any comments lads? Any suggestions on pieces, links or anything else?
Anything new in your collection, or jonesing on anything?

I really like all the stuff you posted there...That LoR brooch is BEAUTIFUL!! I might just cough up the cash for one of those! I am currently jonesing on two original UK's, and a new trad. tank...

Nice. But is anyone jonesing over any accessories? With enough belts, hose, flashes and even sporrans, I think you can greatly increase the diversity of outfits and options with only one kilt! And it's a lot cheaper!

I love the choice of Pins. I also like the round buckle.
I think you have made a great choice in sporrans.
I noticed a good brooch on that site for those LOTR fans that wear a plaid from time to time http://www.noblecollection.com/catal...N9728&catid=17

Galant,
I should not be here doing this! I am in the midst of packing for my two weeks in Vancouver and only broke off to check for e-mails. But you know how it is? "Oh, I'll just take a very quick peek at 'X Marks' whilst I am on line", and before you know it........ Well, I have no need to say more, I guess.
Anyway, now that I am here:
I mean no disrespect at all, believe me, when I ask - are you planning on a Dress belt/buckle or one for more casual, day-to-day wear? Those that you have shown us are, basically, Dress belts and buckles (or waist plates as some will call them), for formal and semi-formal wear. For day wear and casual dressing, you really should be considering a plain leather belt with a large, rectangular buckle which has a single prong - either in brass or chrome. Actually, brass works better on brown leather belts and chrome is better on black.
As we all keep reminding ourselves: there are no rules, however, the styles in those links are traditionally (whatever that really means!) for Dress wear.
Please forgive this intrusion by an old 'traditionalist' (although one with surprisingly modern and trendy interests when it comes to kilt-wearing!) but, even still, I could not bring myself to wear such a belt and buckle casually, and I'd hate to see you unwittingly take a step you might later regret.
The choice is yours!!! ;)

I already have a brown belt which is single pronged etc. A casual belt. Having said that, I'm not looking for something solely for formal wear.
The buckles I was favouring were the grey Inverurie buckle and the round celtic knot buckle.
In my mind, and this is also just my own imagination, I know nothing on the history of belts and buckles. It occurs to me that clasps and buckles of all kinds were used historically. I like the style of those buckles, and wouldn't mind having and wearing one.
Your point is taken, though, I'd probably only wear such when I'd dressed up a bit. Not formal per-se - but a nice shirt, hose, flashes etc - as opposed to regular socks, a more casual shirt or whatever. I just like to look GOOD from time to time!
Any other recommendations? I like things that are a bit unique.
Any comments on the pin Hamish?

I've just recently come into possesion of a USA Kilt Gordon Modern Philabeg and am in the same boat as you Galant of trying to pick some choice accessories to go with it as well as with my UK Survival. I just placed an order for the Rob Roy from USA this week and am hoping to see it this weekend or early next week.
I'm following Hamish's tips about a simple belt from walmart 1 brown and 1 black for $11.00 / each. They have a slightly pebbled look and texture and are 1.75" wide so I think they look well proportioned with the lower riding casual kilts.
I'm very interested in the belts at this site as a variant of the kilt belt.
https://www.paradestore.com/main_frame.asp
They are not as large but could add a nice touch. I have my Brass buckle and white web belt from my dress blues but would like to replace that brass with nickle. The store also said that August 1st they would be adding some other belts and buckles to their line so I'll be checking back.
I'm probably going to go with a few pair of soccer socks for now in black and/or green.
I'm keeping my eye open for an old mess jacket style to wear for formal occasions but that's a low priority now. A thread here mentioned old rental tux jackets can fill this bill for about $40.00 then just replace the buttons.
The Sgian Dubh is an accessory I like but am usually not in a place where it would be appropriate to wear the blade. I had found a site with very nice antler sgian dubh's at a good price but seem to have lost it.
Bottom line, I agree with you that with one or two kilts and some sensible accessories you can have a great wardrobe...If you try to at least reference Hamish's advise ;)

Galant,
From the silent partner in Freelander sporran. !!
You are espoused, i`m not going to tell David so he`s going to get the surprise.
Strange you going for the green and black, that’s the next we talk about making.
I like the options you have her.
Personally I will go for the Celtic Swirl belt and the Highland Swirl waist plate.
I love the Rohan “Kilt Pin”.
Regards
Sten Rune.

Ahh Galant...you have the addiction my friend...
Kilts are addictive and can be expensive...but accessories...YIKES!! :-o
You got the shoes, and boots...nothing ever seems to be quite right...then the kilt hose....and those little knify thingies that go in your sock...and kilt pins and belts and belt buckles and sporrans and sporran straps and/or chains and shirts, vests, jackets and various types of headwear...and flys and maybe swords and all that goes with that....or maybe for the contemporary kilt patches and pins...and don't forget the hangers to hang the kilts from and maybe even extra storage deals assembled from WalMart...
Next thing you know you're joining clans and subscribing to clan newsletters and going to Highland games and buying admissions and tshirts and all manner of things you never suspected you needed.....
Kilts are "Retail Therapy."
