    New tartan has arrived!

After much anticipation, the MacSimoin tartan has been completed: The long awaited delivery of the very first woven sample arrived on August 10, 2005. Matthew Newsome (kiltmaker and Curator of the Scottish Tartans Museum in Franklin, North Carolina) provided his expertise in finalizing the design of the tartan, and then paved the way for the MacSimoin tartan to be woven by DC Dalgliesh Ltd. of Selkirk, Scotland. My heartfelt gratitude and thanks goes out to Matt for his sincere dedication to the fulfillment of another's dream, a dream that's existed for more years than I can remember.

    MacSimion tartan...

A tip o' the bonnet for such a grand tartan! Please keep us updated about its status with the STA.

The tartan reminds me that the Irish actress Maureen O'Hara is a Fitzsimons -- In "The Quiet Man", two of her brothers, Charles Fitzsimons and James (Lilliburn) O'Hara, played Hugh Forbes and Fr. Paul, respectively.

Perhaps a sash or scarf of the new tartan might be sent to Ms. O'Hara?

    Cheers,

    Todd
