Given the option (which is damn near impossible in California), I would rather have a gun than not; like some say, "Never arrive ready for a 'fair fight'".

My idea of a fair fight is where I win. ;-)

I'm in agreement.
If there's no ring, no ref, no clock, no rules then why do people talk about a fair fight?
Somebody said in another thread that the survivor decides the morality, in this context, we agree.

Iolaus, I hear you. However, given the state of the world, and the profusion of methamphetamine addicts able to seemingly enter nearly anyone's house at will, I am loathe to have a firearm in my home. I once carried a .357 with me to work, when I travelled a fair amount on a reservation where there was a lot of violence. When asked why, I said, "I'd rather have a gun and not need it, than need one and wish I had it."
Fair fights are for pugilists. For the rest of us, the only other place you find those two words together are under the letter "F" in a dictionary.
