Leather kilts ...... YESSSSSS! I have the very first leather Utilikilt (UK) to be sold but it would not be fair for me to comment on its many virtues as it is not the same design as those sold today - it has none of that infernal, and rather ugly lacing at the sides. It is, however, pure bliss to wear! As, indeed, are the five other leather kilts in my 'Kollection'.
I also have a generous 6 yarder "TFCK" leather kilt, three more beauties from Union Kilts and, most recently, the superb 'R-Kilt', in British Tan.
Each one of those kilts has its own defined characteristics: they weigh differently (the Union Kilts are the lightest and the 'R-Kilt' just comes in as the heaviest); they all move/swing differently due to the very different designs and weights; some have pockets, others do not. What they DO have in common, apart from being leather(!), is fabulous, supreme comfort.
As for attracting comments: well, I find my kilts seldom court much attention, but last weekend I wore the new 'R-Kilt' to a local Craft Fair and, surprisingly, in just an hour there, three women and one man had stopped me to enquire about the kilt - none of them had ever even heard of a leather kilt, let alone seen one before. All were genuinely interested and asked sensible questions - but then, they were all 'mature' people!! The last lady, petite and probably in her early 80's, was the shyest of the four. She spoke very softly and reminded me of the little old landlady in "The Ladykillers". She asked if she might feel the leather, which she did - on my invitation. We spoke for several minutes and then, with a wicked wink, her parting shot was, "I think I need to go and find a cup of tea now. The sight of you in that kilt has made my knees feel quite weak!"
If you are thinking about a leather kilt, don't think anymore ........go for it! ;)
