Several years ago, while between jobs, I was asked to help at the library to keep order after school hours.
The library quieted down significantly after I came on duty. None of they rowdy punks wanted to mess with the big man with the grey beard and shoulder length hair. I did have to toss out (figuratively) a few over exuberant teens, and one or two adults that didn't act their age.
Three of the little buggers did think they'd pulled a fast one on me though. One kid came running in complaining that some one was stealing his bike, and I went out to see what was going on. When I returned, one of the ladies from upstairs came and told me that her daughter had just informed her that the bike theft complaint was just to get me out from behind the desk and that one of the boys in had stolen money from the petty cash drawer.
The punk who'd done the actual snatch had already decamped, but he made the mistake of leaving his confederates behind. I absolutley terrified those little buggers. I made it quite plain that if they did not give me the name, home address, parents name, and phone number of the thief before the cops arrived, the cops would take them to the hospital before they went to jail.
When the cop arrived, I handed him a paper with the thief's name, description, and residence on it, as well as three tear stained scared silly kids. The thief was picked up about 15 minutes later, with the money still in his pocket.
One thing our local library does is limit access to computers. No one without a library card can use the computers, they must sign in before using, and there is a 30 minute time limit to computer use. And I don't think they will issue a library card to anyone without a fixed address.
