I Think I Am In Love

    From here.

I realise this is only a replica weapon, but I am smitten and deeply in love with the hammer design and would very much like to have the real thing.

This just makes me want to wet my self. A lion's head mace? It would match my Lion's Mane! When I think of holding it, a girlish giggle escapes my lips.

I was born in the wrong era. What cruelty done unto me.

    WAR HAMMER CANE

This could be the perfect choice for self-defense today, considering the sensitivity over concealed items. The comfortable, solid brass head and solid hardwood shaft are in plain view. 36 1/2" cane with rubber tip. 6 3/8" hammer grip

    From Atlanta Cutlery

You old romantic! You're just turning into an old softie!!

A war hammer would be handy in the kitchen too.

Garlic smasher. And those stubborn root vegetables.

I think I just heard the broccoli I keep prisoner in my fridge screaming. I shall have to do to it what I did to the carrots... They learned their lesson.

I like the mace, but the hammer? Look at the curve of that spike; of what tactical use would that be? Yes, it will hook, to drag an opponent closer, but what about the point? What good is it?

I submit that, as pretty as the design on the hammer is, the back side (spike) should be more in line with the arc of the swing, not neccessarily straight on, some hooking is good, but the sharp point should still be accessable for use in the back swing, or as a primary impact point to penetrate a protective helmet if neccessary.

It looks like the kind of thing that might be used against a horseman, to snag him off his mount with one hand while dealing a death-blow with a sword held in the other.

You were almost there on this one...Standing behind your foe (assuming you have the luck or talent to get there*), deliver a blow to the nape of the neck (possibly at a 45 degree angle, depending on your height difference and ability to hit HARD) with the point to easily disable him. As he struggles with a smashed clavicle and ruptured artery, you haven't much left to do but finish him off with that mace or whatever other close-quarters weapon you have at hand.

    Just a thought.

(*Refers to anyone, not Iolaus in particular.)

The back of that hammer is a can opener. Somebody encased in a suit of gothic field plate is a tough nut to crack. Just hook it in to a crease, and start leveraging with the long handle to get to the nut inside.
