Regarding making a canvas kilt
I started last night, and I learned something right off the bat....
Do NOT store your canvas "folded" up when you buy it. In fact, if you can do it, ask the supplier to ship it to you "rolled" up, not folded..
Why?
Well I bought a bunch of caramel colored Carhart canvas off of e-bay. It arrived on my doorstep folded up in a bag. I washed it, dried it and re-folded it and put it in the bag.. It's now sat on my floor in this bag for a month.
You know why canvas is a good choice for making kilts if you can't use wool? Everybody says it's because canvas will take a pleat and hold it. Well, guess what? It'll take wrinkles and fold-lines and hold THEM, too. I just spent two hours ironing my 28-inch wide, four-yard long piece last night, and it's still not right. I will say, however, that the 4-inch iron-over I did for the waistband is razor-sharp.
I have the cut-out, ironed material stored, rolled, around a big cardboard mailing tube.
Just a word to the wise.

Bwaaahaaahaaa!!!
That's funny there... I don't care who you are!
~When you're done with the thing, you can also stand it up on its own. I've done canvas kilts with numerous and deep pleats that will actually keep form just free-standing on a floor. Atleast you don't need to worry about hangers.
Arise. Kill. Eat.

Convenient. Step in, pull up, fasten and go.

Gee, Jimmy, maybe I should have washed it again....
...and again, and again and again....
My four-year old Carhart shorts are finally pretty comfortable, but it took a LOT of washings!!! LOL
