Informal survey...
I've been spending a little more time here recently and I'm glad that I have the opportunity to be a part of Xmarksthescot.com. I've learned much more than I previously knew or understood about kilts due to the wealth of knowledge willingly shared by all the friendly people who post here and I just want to say "Thank You" to everyone.
So, just to post something in an informal vein, I've come up with a 10-question 'survey' wherein members can briefly relate to others their own kilted 'preferences' in a concise 'form'.
Here we go!
1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer? (Please list only one, i.e. a favorite)
2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?
3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?
4. Do you prefer woollen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?
5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?
6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?
7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?
8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?
9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?
10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear? (If you're single, just skip this one)
Disclaimer: This survey isn’t ‘fishing’ for any desired results, intended to produce derision among Xmarksthescot.com members nor is it intended as a means for one member to say “I’ve more kilts than you!” or “I afford the kilted life better than you!” So, please just have fun with it and share a little something about yourself with other members. Slainte!
Admin: If this post is inappropriate, I apologize beforehand; so, please let me know or just delete it.

Great survey, MacSimon! I don't think you're out of line.
I'll start off...
1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker? (List only one, i.e. a favorite)
Ummm.... I plead the 5th.
2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?
MOSTLY tartan, but I do have a couple solids... depends on my mood, but mostly tartan. Each have their place in my wardrobe.
3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?
I wear my 13 oz MacGregor Hntg Premier and my Scotish National Semi Trad the most. I just prefer the looks of these 2 tartans.
4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?
Depends on the weather... hot days, PV all the way. Cooler days and winter... 13 or 16 oz wool.
5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?
Pretty much daily. I'm my own best advertising!
6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?
Ummm... yup. My boss actually encourages it!
7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?
17 CURRENTLY... 1 more on order (freedom kilt) and material for 2 more wool Premiers coming.
8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?
19... in a fashion show in college (one time)
On a REGULAR BASIS... 25... I was the first person around this area to wear one on a regular basis and got a few others started wearing them more often. My 2 x partners started wearing kilts after they saw me in one at the local pub.
9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?
No... I'm the "black sheep"... (sorry, I had to).
10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear
Not married yet... I will (eventually) get married in a kilt.

1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker? (List only one, i.e. a favorite) Hmm...tough call. Don't think I could possibly pick just one
2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt? Mainly tartan, but I own several solids.
3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often? I wear the military sett Gordon most often, but Scottish National is another favorite.
4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)? Like Rocky, it depends on weather. I'm a big proponent of the traditionals in wool, but PV has its place in the summer...
5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt? Basically 24/7/365.
6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment? Yup.
7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)? 18 so far, with orders coming up for two more (Look out, Rocky, here I come!).
8. At what age did you first wear a kilt? 13 years old.
9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt? Nope, although my great-grandfather did before he passed away.
10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear? Married? I'm only a poor college student...I can barely afford my kilt addiction, let alone a girlfriend/fiance/wife!

Question and Answers
Question for the powers that be: can Xmarks do surveys after the yahoo fashion so we could see results? Would be great to have a survey's section and see tablulations posted.
__________
1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer? (Please list only one, i.e. a favorite)
Can't beat Stillwater's HEAVYWEIGHT for a good low-end kilt.
2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?
Tartan for dress, solid for mucking around the discgolf course or the bar.
3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?
Just ordered my first family tartan from USA kilts. Awaiting with high expectations!
4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?
Cotton blend. I live in a HOT / HUMID low rain climate. Lots of sun and hot ground radiating heat upward. A kilt is actually a LOT warmer than shorts in summer here as it offers less protection. We need something that breathes AND can be laundered often. Would be nice if the kiltmakers could press for more tartan fabrics in cotton. (hint, hint) (The PV kilts just don't hold up to laundering as well.)
5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?
Five or six times a week.
6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?
Nope, but wear it after hours w/ the work crowd.
7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?
3 of each.
8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?
Wore one sporadically in my early 20's as part of the 1980's grunge thing. Picked it up again in my late 30's. Now I've succumbed to the kilt addiction and am the local kilt proselytizer.
9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?
Nope, but my godfather says he'll wear one if I get him one for Xmas this year.
10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear? (If you're single, just skip this one)
Single but dating a fellow kiltie.

1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer? (Please list only one, i.e. a favorite)
I, too take the 5th. I have a USA Kilt, a Bear Kilt and two Stillwaters. I will soon have a kilt that I made, myself, perhaps two. I may have another USA Kilt sometime in the not-terribly-distant future. We'll see.
2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?
Tartan, but I have a solid black kilt which I like a lot. My self-made kilt is caramel/saffron colored canvas.
3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?
Ramsay blue, but the MacNaughton is catching up, fast! I wear the Ramsay because I really like the brilliant blue color. When I got it I looked up the Clan Ramsay web site, and learned quite a bit about the family so that I could speak to the tartan with respect. MacNaughton is the Clan on my mothers side, and I've joined the Clan Association.
4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?
My four kilts are current: 2 polyester-viscose and 2 acrylic. They're both just fine, they have different feature to each which make them better or worse in different situations. I don't own a wool kilt...................YET!
5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?
2-4 days a week
6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?
Yes, and have for about 6 months, twice a week.
7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?
1 solid color (another one coming, the one I'm making right now, hope to be done by the end of the week) and 3 tartan
8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?
47
9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?
Nnot a chance. My wife on rare occasions will wear the tartan skirt I bought for her.
10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear?
I'm married, but got married long, long before getting interested in kilts.
