    1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer? (Please list only one, i.e. a favorite)
I don't have a preferred. I like all of my kilts, for different reasons.

    2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?
Both. Two years ago I would have said tartan, but I wear my solid colour kilts just as much.

    3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?
I have a kilt in the Irish Co. Longford tartan, where my family is from. I wear this just as often as other unaffiliated tartans that I own.

    4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?
I prefer wool for the feel, and poly/viscose for the cost!

    5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?
Every hour of every day except when I'm sleeping!

    6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?
Yes. Management likes it, and the customers like it even more.

    7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?
    Five: three tartan, two solid.

    8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?
Uh-oh, now I have to do math.... 27.

    9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?
    No.

    10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear? (If you're single, just skip this one)
Unmarried. But, since I wear the kilt all the time, I will certainly get married in one. It simply won't be an issue, since my bride will know it's just what I wear.

    Andrew.

I only own one kilt. I wear it for special occasions and don't desire to be a full-time kilt-wearer, though I respect those of you who do. My answers will reflect that kilt and the reasons I bought it.

    1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer? (Please list only one, i.e. a favorite)
Ann Stewart, Kiltmaker - Catskill, NY www.kiltshop.com

    2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?
    Tartan.

    3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?
Scottish Borderland district tartan (ITI #5359, and in my avatar). My family name originated in that area and I like the colors.

    4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?
    Wool.

    5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?
    Not weekly. About 10 times/year.

    No.

    7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?
    One.

    40.

    9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?
    No.

    10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear?
(If you're single, just skip this one)
Yes. My upgrade to Wife version 2.0 spurred me to finally spend the money on something I had always wanted.

    1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer?

Unfair question ... overall I am a local supporter kinda guy (USAK).

    2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?

Both. I find the solid color fits in and is accepted more at non-celtic outtings better than tartan. However, when you wear tartan 'most' people know it's a kilt right away. On the solids I get more questions regarding 'what is it'.

    3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?

    Mackay and BlackWatch equally

    4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?

I prefer wool for the look and feel, and PV for the economical cost.

    5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?

One or two times a week, and usually all weekend.

    6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?

    No

    7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?

Three: UK Workmans, USAK Mackay Traditional, SWK BlackWatch

    8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?

Ummmm ... about 10 or 11 years old. Possibly sooner, but I definitly remember going to the games with my G-Father kilted about that age.

    9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?

    Not since my G-Father passed.

    10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear? (If you're single, just skip this one)

Married in cut off shorts and a T-shirt at the 'Chapel of the Bells' in Reno Nevada June of 1999. Even had a midi file of "Here Comes the Bride", but sadly no kilts :-(

My answers follow the same order in which they were asked...

    1. My first kilt and favorite was handsewn by MacIsaac Kiltmakers in Nova Scotia Canada. Although not well known, they are fully trained and build their kilts with meticulous craftsmanship.

    2. I prefer tartan but dark solids run a close second.

    3. Most often wear clan Henderson tartan - ancient colors.

    4. I prefer worsted wool.

    5. I wear kilts most weekends and some evenings.

    6. I hav eworn a kilt to the office a couple of times and to trade shows. I don't make a regular habit of it nor do I wish to. Standard western attire is just fine for that.

    7. I currently own 7 kilts, 3 of them solids.

    8. I strapped on my first at age 49.

    9. I am currently the only family member.

    10. I was married in a tuxedo.

    cheers,
    blu

1.I don't have a preferred kiltmaker; I think I'd just like to play the field.

2.I prefer tartan, but I get a lot of use out my solid as well, and will probably get more of both!

3.I wear my clan tartan (Ancient Hunting McIntosh by House of Edgar) most often.

4.My woolen trad is my pride and joy, but I wear cotton and acrylic happily (although I wouldn't have seen myself in anything but woolen tartan a year ago).

5.I wear the kilt roughly 3-4 times a week on average. My average is rising since I've been on X-Marks. A year ago, I had one kilt that I wore maybe 4 times per year.
6.No, I don't wear kilts to work. Well, okay, maybe once a year.
7.I own 3 in total; two tartan (a trad handsewn and a SWK standard in Black Stewart) and a khaki FK.
8.I first wore the kilt when I was 16; that was 34 years ago.
9.I have two brothers who have recently started wearing the kilt; my dad wears his as well.
10.I wore a kilt at my first wedding as a going-away outfit (29 years ago). At my second (and last!) wedding two years ago, all the men in the wedding party were kilted. All the kilts were tartan (see picture at Bravehearts if you like).

    1. For overall quality and cost, who is your preferred kiltmaker or kilt retailer?

To answer that would be unfair. I have kilts from 18 kiltmakers and I love 'em all - with one exception!!

    2. Which is your personal preference, a tartan or solid color kilt?

I have no preference - it all depends upon where I am going, what I am doing, my mood, the weather, etc., etc.

    3. If you wear clan, family or district tartans, which tartan do you wear most often?

Difficult to say really. Gunn probably, but whatever is newest in my Kollection will also have something to do with it. For example, my recently acquired 'British Columbia' from Bearkilts, and my 'Ancient Bruce of Kinnaird' from Geoffrey (Tailor), have both been seeing a lot of daylight these past few weeks!

    4. Do you prefer woolen kilts or kilts made from alternative materials (cotton, etc)?

It depends on the kilt, and the time of year!

    5. On a weekly basis, how often do you wear a kilt?

    All day, every day.

    6. Do you wear a kilt at your place of employment?

I am retired! But when I worked I could not have done, due to my position - nor would I have expected to.

    7. How many kilts do you own (tartan and/or solid color)?

    55 - 13 in tartan, 31 solid colour and 11 others.

    8. At what age did you first wear a kilt?

    Fourteen - 55 years ago!

    9. Do any other members of your family wear a kilt?

I have no family still alive, but none would have.

    10. If you’re married, did you get married in a kilt and what kilt (tartan or solid color) did you wear? (If you're single, just skip this one)

This one does not apply to me - alas!
