Kiltpin on my AmeriKilts

I don't either, Adam. Modern kiltpins are really nothing more than decorative and somehow they just look out of place (to my mind) on anything other than a Scottish-made kilt. It's an aesthetic thing!

I would tend to agree with Hamish, but it is a matter of preference. Solid kilts have such clean, definable lines that I don't think that a kilt pin adds anything to the aesthetics. As for the function of a kilt pin, it seems that the same could be obtained with an oversized safety pin... it would give it a more "industrial - grunge" look that the kids dig. :-)

I would tend to disagree on this one. I think having a kilt pin in the proper place, even if the kilt isn't a "traditional plaid", could be a visual cue to otherwise confused onlookers that the garment you're wearing is a kilt, not a skirt. The trick would be to coordinate the style of pin to the style of kilt (i.e. no fancy jewels on a canvas duc kilt with studded belt!)

Sigh... Guess I'll have to get one of the other kilts if I want to show off my pins.

No, no... no need to get another kilt. That's not exactly what I meant to say at all. You make a very good point that it might direct someone's attention to the fact that it is a KILT and not a SKIRT. My point is that it is a personal choice and that I think a solid canvass kilt is already very sharp looking. If you want to show off you killer pins, go for it. I just think that a high quality solid print UK or AK style kilt doesn't need it and it can actually draw from the aesthetics of the kilt. If you feel otherwise then cool, who and I to argue

Again, it is just my 2 cents. Heck, I'm just happy to see that we're debating how we wear our kilts rather than should we wear our kilts.

Well, I think that Ron did it right. I was merely thinking out loud (so to speak), talking about UKs. I do think that the narrow apron eliminates the pin; it would be almost in the middle, and that definitely would look strange. I'm going to have to get a kilt with a wider apron, like an AK.

Has anyone tried a kilt pin or clan pin on the pocket of their UK - like I've done my patches. Might work there, either on the main body of a pocket or on the flap if it were small enough or a sideways sword type kilt pin.

UKs cry for some sort of decoration...patches, pins, something...I hang keyring dealies in peace signs and hearts from the belt clip sometimes...
