Hey all,
I was cruising around on E-bay when this auction caught my attention.

Has anyone had experience with this company?
I had a quick look through their feedback, but couldn't find any comments regarding the kilts
The pictures look nice, but would it stand up to real world use?

My first instinct is that because they specifically specify/advertise this product as a ren faire kilt, that it probably isn't the best choice for everyday wear. Just my $0.02.

I agree with Sav, if you want a kilt you can wear anywhere, put the money into a good kilt from one of the kiltmakers here.

Mind you, if they included the sword I would be tempted :grin:

Looks to be a home business from the Web site an a quick Google search. You can probably email the seller and get some better details on the fabric and perhaps samples of the the tartan you are interested in, as it appears that there are several to choose from. I know that this seller has been offering these on ebay for a while now so I would not worry about trying to snag this one prior to doing a little research IMHO.

To be brutally honest I really dont like it.

I think youd be better investing in a quality Kilt and take your time choosing the Tartan, youll have someting that will last you a lifetime (subject to visits to fast food establishments)

I have to agree with the general consensus here, Brasilikilt. This sort of thing is really only suited to the American renfair arena, or possibly to the world of the theatre/films. It is a costume - hardly a garment. If you wore this on the streets of the United Kingdom (which includes Scotland!!) you would probably be a laughing-stock.

My advice: Invest in a kilt which can be worn anywhere at any time rather than this 'limited wear' item.

These guys are giving you good advice, Brasil.

I will say, however, that that's kind of a shame. That big length of tartan is probably much closer to the original kilts than the finely tailored ones that most of us on the board have spent hundreds of bucks on.

I know that the SCA strives to bring historical accuracy to it's costumes/garb, and they seem at least to be making an effort with the quality of wear, but I agree that it's not so much an everyday kilt as a historical reenactment kilt- and as such, might look a little silly in a t-shirt and combat boots, or other modern accessories.

I really appreciate your honest and to-the-point opinions on this one!
The thing looks like it could be a tartan bedsheet!!
Can anyone reccomend a good maker of great kilts?

Just so you all know, I was not intending this kilt to be a regular day wear thing. I think that would be way to silly to wear around town!
I'm also thinking about how much a pain in the **** it would be to simply get in and out of cars!
I have been wanting to experiment with the great kilt as a piece of kit for camping. If it worked for the Highlanders back in the day, it might work for me too.
24 feet of wool material sounds very warm to curl up in at night, If it rains you can pull it up over your head, from what people have mentioned, you can even form pockets in it to carry small items.

I've also thought it would be a very quiet garment to wear while deer hunting.
