    18" + Calves...What to wear

I purchased a pair of Acrylic Soccer socks which work fairly well for casual wear but these are still rather tight (and thin) on my 18" calves.

I see that Bear is selling Rugby socks which look like a good deal but will they provide the thickness needed for a proper cuff on a calve my size?

The only other thing I've found is Burnett's & Struth's hose for wide calves for $27.00. But I don't know what wide means. I need to email them to find out.

The other thing I've wondered about is taking some of the terry cloth sweat bands and slip them under the single roll cuff to add thickness to the look.

I know what you mean. My calves measure 20". About the only thing you can do is custom order them. It's expensive, but probably necessary is you want a good fit. I'm looking into this myself.

    large calf kilt hose...

As I've done before, I highly recommend the Almost Unwearoutable Sock Company in Morpeth, Northumberland England:

    www.almostunwearoutable.com

Yes, they are pricey, but they are the best kilt hose I have ever owned, period -- and they are truly "almost unwearoutable". ;)

    Cheers,

    Todd

I am in that same boat. If any of you all have seen my pictures, you know how thick I am.

What they charge for people of immense muscular (or flabby) girth is obnoxious. It's why I haven't bought any actual kilt hose yet. I have no flashes either, as I am not sure that they would fit me.

We need a line of clan clothing for man sized men. It's frusterating to go window shopping online and see a good deal on some hose and flashes, and just know that they wouldn't fit you. And if I did find some big enough to go around my calves, they would probably be long enough to go up to my dang hips because some dolt would assume tall = big. Nobody thinks about us short folk that are bulked out. It's also kept me from buying a Jacobite shirt. If I bought one large enough to fit my size 50+ chest, the darn thing would hang down to my bloody ankles.

Makes me mad. NO CONSIDERATION FOR US WEE FOLK.

It's actually soured my kilting experience a bit. It's hard to find kit that fits right.

Since I lost a bunch of weight recently I don't have the calves I once had but I bought a pair of Twin City Knitting Football socks from the local sporting goods store. http://www.twincityknitting.com. As they are made for American footballers, who tend to be large guys, These might work for you, the socks are long and have a substantial turndown which might give you the look you are going for. And they were about $4.50

Same problem, 19" calves. Even the good kilt hose make my feet turn blue

I might give those hose in the posted link a try. I do have one pair of hand knit hose that fit ok, but man they cost a pretty penny.

Ditto, 19" calves. The regular kilt hose everyone has are so tight that I dont even need flashes to hold up the socks, and yes it does cut off the circulation a bit.
