Stillwater questions

I want to get a Black Watch heavyweight from Stillwater but 24" is way too long on me. (I have very stumpy legs!).

Question 1: Has anyone here shortened one and how did you do it?

The Website tells me "these kilts can be easily shortened by the purchaser if needed."

Question 2: How is it possible to maintain the proper shelvedge?

You hem it up. The Stillwaters are still light enough that they can be hemmed and once properly pressed look good.

Bubba's right. The StillWater acryllic is pretty easy to work with, and any tailor or seamstress can do the job if you can't. It's as simple as hemming it up to your preferred length. Just be careful with the taper and fringe on the apron. You'll need to release the the side hem before you do the bottom hem. After it's complete, THEN you can rebuild the tapered apron.

Pressing is easy since they're not using the wool material yet. It's VERY sharp and crisp when pressed correctly. Don't overheat it with one pressing. Rather, use a lower setting, and press BOTH sides a few times. It will hold the pleats better too.

For the customer service, speed, product, look and price... you just can't beat the StillWater Kilts. They're not a custom fit, but with a little work... they can be.

10 oz wool kilts are hemmed, I understand the 10 oz material doesn't come with a selvedge.

The SWHW BlackWatch is wool. And per Jerry the Black HW acryllic is being phased out and they are coming out with a wool one next month with better buckles.
