I hope I made my point.
It's the good cop, bad cop thing. Cajunscot, you're one of the good guys.

If I seem wise and witty, it's because I went downtown earlier and had a quintuple shot latte.
I have achieved caffeinated nirvana. I am feeling positively spry. And witty and wise.
Best part was, I looked so bloody awful that he only charged me for a double.

The guys who are actually participating in the games...again, the t-shirt and a practical kind of kilt and the shoes with the knife blades taped to the toes so that they can throw the hammer (Rosa Kleb would be so proud!).
Whoa... I don't know which one of these fit me closest.
I guess since I only compete on weekends and never at the MAJOR invites, I probably spend more time looking like the former than the latter. ;)
BTW, not all of us use steel bladed boots for throwing the hammer. I rarely if ever break out the hammer boots.

I once threw a hammer. It was a ten pound sledge. I was really quite angry, and wished to express my displeasure to my foreman, who had just irked me. It's not like I hit him. The hammer went in to the wall at least a good foot and a half away from his head. That bastard fired me for no reason.
What's it take to throw a Scots Hammer?

The new options with SportKilts, sewn down pleats, waistbands of a sort, belt loops, and cut to your length make them look a LOT better. I have two of the old gathered waist SportKilts and was sad, jealous when I saw the new way they can be ordered.
But even then, the young man wearing it left the games wearing a brand new Utilikilt....we all need more kilts....

Well Dread, unlike throwing a sledge, you use more torso and less arm... and less anger... and better form... and, well, nevermind. It's just a lot diifferent movement all around. But you can throw a Highland hammer much further than you ever could throw a sledge, and that makes it pretty cool in my book. The local groundskeepers don't care much for all the divets we leave in the field when we're all done but that's another issue entirely.
Okay, back on topic. I also own an "old school" Sportkilt like the one described above. It's cool for kick'n around the house in and for competing in but the NEW options available are pretty cool. IMHO they turn the Sportkilt into something a little more fitting for a night at the pub.
