Sounds like BS to me. I've never had a problem with AAFES or heard of such a thing in all the years I've been in uniform.
My unit just sent Walmart gift cards to the personnel at Keesler AFB (40% lost everything) to help them purchase essentials.
After hearing from other people who have dealings with AFES, it begins to appear that this stuff is associated with only the management at this one particular AFES. I am glad that the whole exchange system isn't run this way.
