My favorite response has always just been "Because I like it." Even more than "it's comfortable," this seems to throw off the nay-sayers and build respect for the wearer and their self-esteem as perceived by the beholder.
Let's face it - a person who just does something because "they like it" and don't have to give you a bunch of excuses/reasons for doing something is the most confident, or at least appears to be the most confident. And that's respected or even intimidating to those who aren't confident, and those less confident people are the ones most likely to question kilt-wearing.

Yup, another good reply. The point being, as long as it's about you and not some outside influence, it's all good.

It went great.
Thanks all for the support. It was a piece of cake....
I totaly had a blast. The place was packed with young girls,
I was constantly being interupted by comments, or winks all positive.
I had to stroll through some rough neighborhoods on my way to the venue. and never a sideways glance. "that I noticed" I walked with confidence and pride. I ran into a young guy who owned (Utilikilt, I bieleve) He said he was wishing He had worn his after seeing me walk around like I owned the place.. Only one guy in a bar asked the Underwear question. I looked him in the eye and said "why do you want to know." Shut him up....
I an totaly sold, its kilts for me.....
thanks, Richland

Isn't that the truth! I'm 50 and going bald... and get approached by women when wearing a kilt. If only I'd known this 35 years ago...
