A short conversation....

About 30 minutes ago, while at the grocery store, I had the "nice skirt" comment tossed at me from behind. I turned a bit te see a short stocky and rather shabby woman, early 60s, looking at me.
"Nice skirt", she repeated with a slightly curled lip.

"It better be for $600" I replied, while grinning and batting my eyes at her.

End of conversation... she just rolled her eyes and walk away.
I just smiled and went about my business.

At that same moment on the other side of town....
I was also shopping, only the Taste of Britain store was having a promo and had a piper playing right on Oxford Street. Not bad. Figured if I'm kilted and they're piping, I better go have a look. Prices weren't too bad for the rugby sweaters, nothing much in the way of kilt stuff. I never did ask to see if they can order anything.
Then I went to the superstore where nobody really paid me much attention at all, I'm going to have to find someplace else. Mind, they pretty well would have had to go by the piper to get in.
Had a couple of comments in the morning where I used the kiltday line. That really spun people so bad that I felt dishonest. I'll get over it.

I completely missed that... must pop in and have a look.

Ohhh, we get noticed... Late yesterday afternoon while paying for a purchase at Wal*Mart, there was a woman, late twenties, with 2 young boys at her side in front of me. The one young fellow, looking quite concerned at my attire, grabbed his mothers leg and tugged. "Yes", she said looking down, "thats the same man in the kilt we saw before". I just smiled back.

Well, good for her! She got it right and explained it to her kids without puting a spin on it.

A few minutes later, while going out the main doors, the local fire fighters were campaigning for charity. I popped a few dollars into the big rubber boot one fellow was holding and he it says to me... "You wore your kilt just for this?!".... "Abolutely!", I responded and smiled.
As I walked away, I overheard one of the guys say, "We should be wearing kilts."

Wal*Mart and stores like it all seem to have an interesting array of characters most of the time anyway. I consider myself just one of the crowd there. I think people are getting used to seeing me around and are less and less inclined to comment.

I gotta try that line one of these days.
