X Marks Tartan material arrived today!!
Oh, yeah.
OOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooh, YEAH. Yes. Do I make my meaning plain?
YES.
Steve and Matt.... THANK YOU. For the design and thread counts and everything, Matt...thank you. All these months of work, of checking weavers, voting on the design, collecting funds and on and on have paid off. All Steve's work with Fraser and Kirkbright, as well as handling the bucks $$ has resulted in something wonderful.
THANK YOU.

Double-Jones?
This whole thing with the X Marks tartan cloth just strikes me as setting ourselves up for a Double-Jones!
Jones #1: Waiting for the cloth.
Jones #2: Waiting for someone to DO something to the cloth, whether it be making a kilt, etc.
Still, I wish I had the cash to drop on something like this right now...double-Jones and all!

Going to be a while. I ordered some inexpensive cotton tartan off of ebay to practice on. Steve from Freedom Kilts suggested that it'd be a serious mistake to use this stuff for my first hand-made traditional kilt, so I'm going to sew up another one first.
I finshed the canvas kilt this weekend, and will be soaking it in Downy and washing a couple of times before I iron the pleats and show it off to the world.
I was going to buy a smaller amount of X-Marks material and have Matt Newsome sew up a box-pleated kilt for me....sort of the Ultimate X-Marks Tartan Kilt, but the Mrs. is rebelling at the $$$ so I'm stitching it up myself. This wasn't cheap so I'm gonna o it *right*.

Sir Robert, the X-Marks tartan is the backround used here at X Marks. The actual woven cloth is somewhat darker than what you see on the screen. The lighter blue stripes are more subtle, as are the gray lines that border them. The gold highlight stripe is very prominent and the large white lines are very strong.
It's a very handsome, subtle, formal-looking tartan, to my eyes.

Do you think you could take a pic of the cloth, for all of us curious souls?

I'll try to mooch the Dept. digital camera tonight, and snap a pic to post tomorrow.
